Think we're just smoking a turkey and having stuffing and green bean casserole as sides. There are only three of us, so no need to go all out.

You're doing a whole turkey? For three people?

Yup.

Lotta turkey soup and turkey salad sandwiches in our future.

Small get together of 6. Smoked turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, rolls, salad, pumpkin pie and pecan pie. Pretty traditional.

4 of us are certain, possibly up to 6 with 2 kids. FIL has a gluten-free/low sugar diet this season due to health reasons, which I saw as a fun challenge to try to comply with, given I've never thought that way.

12-14 lb spatchcocked turkey.
Braised green beans
Creamed pearl onions
Mashed sweet potatoes
Brazilian cheese bread
cranberry sauce (he can have just a little)
Pumpkin pie with gluten-free graham cracker crust
Rex Racer

In-laws wanted to take care of all the main/side dishes, so I
will be doing dessert only. They are all so picky, so I'll be doing a plain cheesecake with three sauces: chocolate, raspberry and pecan pie sauce.

I'm excited to not have to spend Thanksgiving doing the normal stuff, not being surrounded by dead animals, and getting to spend it with my partner. We're spending a lot of the day hiking, so the menu is lazy food:

  • Field Roast en croute with mustard + maple sauce
  • Red onion + carrot + walnut tatin
  • Something with broccoli, B sprouts, or cauliflower, since that's what came in my veggie box this week
  • Mini cookie cake from leftover dough + frosting from an order this week
  • Those little crescent rolls from the can because someone else can make them
  • A whole bunch of seasonal beers because the beer order came in this week

Are you buying Texas Road House rolls and cinnamon butter, or making a copycat recipe?

Going with prime rib today, green beans, mashed potatoes, brioche mushroom dressing. Couple store bought pies. Made a turkey last weekend already.

It was for a fund raiser for my boys elementary school. You could by a dozen rolls frozen ($5) and butter if you wanted.

Came frozen and you've got to let 'em rise for 4 hours then bake

I don't own any of his books, but I am a fan of Sean Brock and what he's done to preserve Southern food.

Super scaled back this year since we are both coming off The Covid & my taste is still a little messed up. Pre- cooked, small 10 lb turkey (actually not bad), a box of stovetop dressing, instant mashed potatoes, turkey gravy mix, a can of cranberry sauce & frozen dinner rolls. Turkey heated for about 1.5 hours, the rest took minutes. Worst meal I've ever had? No, actually surprisingly OK for the amount of effort put in.

Edit - Mr. Schwack had a lovely old fashioned which I would normally have, too but it tasted off.... looking forward to my taste bud recovery.

You can put in all of the effort that you want, but at the end of the day, it's still turkey and not pizza or a hamburger. Gravy is tough to beat though.

2nd year in a row I said never again. This time I mean it. Traditional Thanksgiving is a complete waste of my time and talent. Worthless garbage that can't be fixed

I live in Germany now and we got it from a local restaurant as part of our goose meal. The rotwohl was typically German pickled variety, and the dumplings were balled with herbs added for taste.

Both very hearty foods and excellent when mixed with the added goose fat.
