My wife and I are headed to NOLA in a couple weeks to relax for a couple days. We don't plan on spending a ton of money on any meals (prefer to keep it under about $15 each for most meals). I know there are lots of great places around town, but does anyone have specific recommendations?

Beignets, muffalatas, and cajun (non-fried) seafood recommendations are specific things we're targeting.

cochon butcher is a rec. you can't drink for $15 per person, but you'll get a couple of really good sandwiches and stuff.

Dat Dog, unique hot dogs of all kinds (vegetarian, wild game, etc) plus interesting toppings and good beer on draft. There is one on Magazine (Garden district/Uptown area).

cafe beignet on Royal St in the quarter. Good breakfast sandwiches and strong coffee

The fact there's a strong Vietnamese culture makes a ton of sense, but it hadn't even registered with me. We'll have to hit one of the bakeries or a ph shop up. It's been too long.

Apparently Pho Tau Bay is closed while they relocate. I actually got those two Vietnamese places from Emerill Legassee himself.

Deannie's is great. Mothers is overrated in my pinion but it's still good. Great place for breakfast.

Best burger in that quadrant of the USA is Yo Momma's on St. Peter's. Don't miss it.

Loved Deanies. Dragos was pretty good.

Just an fyi, if it wasn't so popular, most of the FQ would be shut down due to rodents. We'll just say if you watch the shadows of rafters of the most popular 24/7 food stop, you will eventually spot rats...I'm not kidding.

DreamyWeenies on north rampart is pretty good and pretty cheap, and close to the French quarter. When I was there we went to Magazine st, I think, and there were a lot of small places that were cheaper than the French quarter area, along with lots of unique little shops.

Stanley (on Jackson Square) has really great food for a casual breakfast.
Cochon in the Warehouse District is one of my favorites (lunch or dinner)
IMO, Clancy's (on Annunciation St.) is the best meal in the city.

Don't go to NOLA and miss eating at Clancys or Gautreus.

Back from NO last week. Downsized our restaurant selection to Kenner Seafood, Fishermans cove Harbour seafood and they were great. Usually do Geautreaux or other high dollar. Ck the dives out like Crabby Jacks which is owned by Jacque Emos . Another ultra cheap is Charles Seafood on Harahan. Bottle wine 12$

The problem with New Orleans is if you ask 100 people for restaurant recommendations, you'll get 95 different answers.

Spore,

Damn! I used to live a quarter mile from Charles Seafood... my old neighborhood restaurant! I still hit Harbor Seafood in Kenner every time I go home. FYI... Fishermans Cove is the market next door.

So true. I'll answer slightly different, the first place I'm going to when I go back is Cochons. If I'm there on my companys dime, August is the next nights stop.
