Here's a random Spanish wine we got a couple of bottles of recently. Fun red change up. Has a bit of minerality to it. Against the grain of our normal stuff, fun to try.



Had a great dinner tonight and this bottle stole the show.

Those bubble are 4.5 bar I think whereas a normal bottle is 6 bar. It makes it softer feeling on the palate. That particular bottling is the same wine as their vintage cuvee but a little more dosage and less pressure. Several producers are doing 4.5 bar, most notably Cedric Bouchard for many years.

Last bottle find about a year ago during a marathon. Bought a case when it popped up again. $50 for a great drinker.

Amazing wine. Decanted for 3hrs last night, sealed and drinking tonite. Delicious. Soft, fruit, raspberry, five spice, blackberry. Wonderful

50th bday celebration. 4 hour decant, absolutely divine. Too bad I dont have another bottle in the house.

I'd say you're lucky ( or wise). I wish I had gotten into fine wine at so young an age.

Last night we enjoyed a 2016 Terra Felice Syrah from Martinelli Vineyards in Sonoma County.

I'm not really familiar with syrahs but I bought the bottle after reading an article about the Martinelli Family, who have been growing grapes and making wine in Sonoma County since the 1880s.

Nice! I have always wanted to try their wines and visit. Jackass Hill Vineyard Zin from them sounds intriguing. Farmed on a 60-65 degree non-terraced slope. Neat family history in the area.

After tasting this syrah, I would definitely buy more from them. I got that bottle from Wine.com -- around $35, I believe.

I'm going to PDX in late June to hike and will have a day to visit wineries. Any recommendations for wineries? My preference is for appointment only and bottle cost at or below $100.

Texas Wine Auction Foundation tonight. Very deserved and long overdue.

I've been leaning towards champagne this year. This one, with a 60% Meunier lead casting, is superb.

Went to Hall Rutherford vineyard for a tasting yesterday. Im hooked. Signed up immediately for the memebership.

What is a good method for logging wines and ratings and notes?

For whiskies, I've always used my iphone notepad. Very high tech.
For beers, the Untappd app is very good.

I've always been a very random, occasional wine drinker. There are too many countries, varieties, vintages to keep track of and become a fan of anything in particular. Except for Cabernets, I know I like those :-)

Lately, I've been buying from Last Bottle and Total Wine's Concierge program based on their notes and ratings. Sometimes Costco too. So now I have a stack of wine bottles and nothing organized to keep track of ones I want to try again later, or not.

If you put them in CellarTracker, you can add tasting notes when you drink them.

2020 Linne Calodo Nemesis served up on a Pearl beer tray that is older than I am.

The Arlaud was the wine of the night. The Jabouoet was a little over the hill but improved to drinkable with 2 hrs of air. The droughin was hanging in by a thread. The Roy Oiper was a solid wine but needed more time before it's ready to drink.

Went to dinner at Eunice last night. Had a glass of cabernet from a winery that is new to me ... Elyse.

Small winery, been around a long time. Just outside of Yountville.

The cab wasn't one of their more expensive offerings but it was enjoyable. I'd love to visit some of those smaller Napa wineries some day.

Visited Elyse a couple years ago, joined the membership for a year as it just made sense based on what we were going to buy. They make some really good Zins, the St. Peter's Church being our fav. The winery sold a few years back from original family and I believe they brought in Russell Bevan to start making the wines so they've changed a but. Still very good, not a bad visit either. The "brother" winery of the previous owners is Jacob Franklin and I've never had anything from there I didn't like, shows up on the discount sites from time to time.

Good to know ... thanks for the info! Every day I learn something new about wine.

I remember my first trip to Napa back in 1999. We had driven up from my buddy's house in East Bay and enjoyed way too many wines all day. We roll up to the Elyse tasting room at about 6:00pm and a guy across the street yells out "the winery's closed but y'all can drink with me!" So we did. Ends up it was the owner. I was on their mailing list for several years after that. Good times.

I'm envious over the Arlaud. I am on my second night of four in St Emilion. Followed by theee in Paulliac. Not much of a right bank guy but I buy from a guy here. Mostly Paulliac and St Julien.
