Do you mind posting, linking, or messaging the recipe? Bet that pairing was awesome.

Sound delicious! Grits are a good base for just about anything, I'll have to try that.

Preach. Grits don't get enough love or attention.

Finding place with corkage has changed me. Although it was half price wine night i still think I came out ahead with the Nellcote.

That's unfortunate. I've never had a bad meal there, and their Tom Kha soup is one of the best things I've had anywhere.

My last meal at Lotus left a little to be desired on the service standpoint, specifically wine service. I ordered a bottle of JJ Prum and it took them over 15 minutes to tell me that they were sold out of that vintage. So I gave them my second choice and it took another 15 minutes or so to bring it out. My first dish had already been served. I wasn't pleased. Food was fine.

The other location over at Red Rocks left a little to be desired ambiance wise. It felt more like an Instagram backdrop than Lotus of Siam. Again, food was fine. I just like the feel of the other one better, and the hole in the wall OG restaurant from the 2000s even better.

For some good food and wine, and I'm keeping this in this thread just for y'all, give Lamaii a shot. It's the old Somm from those OG Lotus days.

Edited for spelling.

For anyone with wine at Morningstar off Voss, I don't think they've had ideal conditions in the storage area since May. It was 68 in there a few months ago. Then they for the temp down to 55 but humidity was way too low. Here are today's conditions. Be sure to write and call them to let them know this isn't acceptable.

Where?

We recently moved to garden oaks and was excited because a storage place near us had wine storage on a sign out front. Went in and all they had were standard climate controlled rooms.

There is, or will be. A venture I'm invested in is expanding to Houston. Taking on a few more investors and/or founding members. Westheimer and 610-ish (inside). Inquire within.

At a certain cellar valuation one would think it would be better to build a cellar at home to control the environment much more closely and have easier access to the wine.

I seriously considered this when building my home but ultimately decided against it. My wife works from home so she got the big office and I utilized some extra space for my own office as opposed to a wine cellar. My storage unit has been great for over a decade. They just need to get this dialed in soon.

I like keeping my wine with me. For me it would be like storing art off site. Lessens the pleasure of owning a collection.

I'm falling in love with Croatian wines. This particular wine is phenomenal and can be had for EUR 40 in a shop.

Has anyone tried the 2017 Beringer Steinhauer Ranch Cab? I think that is Last Bottle's "mystery" offering today. The price is a great deal, but I am concerned about smoke taint since I have not seen any super recent reviews I trust and there usually is a reason wines like this show up on LastBottle or WTSO.

Last Bottle . . . who is this

Mystery Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain Napa Valley 2017
Here's how it works...you PROBABLY know this wine. You CERTAINLY know this producer. Obviously, we can't TELL YOU what this is (that's how we worked out the EPIC deal with the winery)! So…a simply CANNOT be beat, exceptional price on an iconic, historic, and treasured producer's TOP Howell Mountain cabernet sauvignon… who's ready for hints…?

- 100% CABERNET SAUVIGNON. Single vineyard up on Howell Mountain, where those red, rocky, volcanic soils pump out age-worthy, world-class cabernet sauvignon like nobody's business!

- Big-time, long-time winemaker with TONS of 95-99 pt. scores under his belt…and one who used the notoriety built here to help kickstart his own namesake winery.

- One critic called this wine: "the darkest and most powerful" of this producer's Howell Mountain wines.

- The vineyard lies at some 1,800 feet in elevation, ABOVE THE FOG, and in one of the warmer pockets of Howell Mountain…also, prior to 2003, this vineyard might have been known as something else entirely!

- Last Bottle has the best price in the USA on this…and it's not even close!!!

- 94 POINTS! 93+! And this wine has only gotten better with time!

Ok, who's got their guess? Drinking amazing now, but with life to survive DECADES further! Inky, brooding, with incredible intensity candied violets and lilacs on the nose, with truckloads of black and blue fruits, that savory, minerally, graphite and black pepper sensation that only the BEST Howell Mountain cabernets boast, all nicely framed in toasty, spicy, luscious 100% new French oak! You need this, I need this, every cab-loving soul on planet Earth needs this! Sadly not all can snag it especially at our price! OVER $100 OFF!!!

Get a move on, GOOD PEOPLE! Wine Wednesday doesn't get better than this!!!

Ok when to a work dinner last night. They had half price wines (under $100). The waiter makes a compelling cause for Penfolds 704 at $99 list. So we jump in. So we are paying $49 for a wine that retails for $75. Kinda crazy.. And shoutout for this place for having reasonable markups across the board.

(1) Loved this wine. Found it juicy and smooth and a crowd pleaser as I call it. Everyone liked it.
(2) What is the deal with Penfolds. They have wines at every price point and I can never predict what is what. But this is twice that I had a Penfolds that punched way above its class.
(3) anyone else ever had this?

That is not ideal. 61 degrees isn't a killer, but the lack of consistency is a bigger flag to me.

There are several options in the area, tbh

Art of cellaring is full but expanding their space. NCV has some space, I think. the 713 place, can't recall the exact name. Balthazar, or something like that, over in upper Kirby area is a wine storage business.

Probably a couple of others I'm missing off the top of my head.

in truth, though, even if you have the money, it is a pretty significant investment. You need a proper space, for temp and humidity with reliable backup power. Home compressor units are generally not that reliable and require a lot of maintenance.

I'd like to have a great space at my house, but I don't have a good area for it and it is nice knowing my wine is stored in a good environment without any worry.

Short term it's fine. But I'm giving the guy a week to fix it, or I'm out.

Update: looks like it won't be fixed soon. Time to move. Ugh. This is gonna suuuuuuck.
