Feels like a lot of folks not taking their allotments - stuff is being circulated all over the place.

Also, think a lot of Napa operations were linked to SVB - so probably more "offerings" to come.

SVB customers will be fine now because no customers will lose any deposits now that FDIC has backstopped any losses. With the number of technology people that own wineries, I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of Napa wineries used SVB for banking.

My company is majority owned by private equity, and it was a scary weekend for VC/PE companies. Many CEOs were getting ready to put company expenses and payroll on credit cards. We didn't have any money at SVB but I'm not sure what we would have done if we lost all the cash in our checking accounts.

A lot of wineries in Sonoma and Napa worked with SVB regardless of some kind of tech crossover. Many are on the smaller end of things though, so their losses would/will be minimal. The loss I'm reading more about is opportunity loss (e.g. a winery securing a loan 18 months ago from SVB that they were planning to execute on in a few months in vineyard development).

The wine segment of SVB was relatively small. But interestingly enough, one of the guys there, Rob McMillan, put out an annual wine industry report that had become pretty much the flagship across the whole industry for analysis and a market outlook. That report is in limbo now and he may keep producing it, but that is dependent on landing spot for him.

Rob built the wine lending business at SVB, that had nothing to do with any technology/venture capital crossover or whatever else is out there floating in the internet.

After spending nearly a year in the Central Coast, my company is moving us to Pendleton OR. I've been spoiled by amazing CA wines but have heard great things about the WA/OR wine country. I'll be close to Walla Walla and the Yakima Valley areas and looking for recommendations.

Well his future is uncertain at the moment, and he's said as much. He said we may have seen the last of those annual wine industry reports. Sure he built it up himself at SVB, but it's not completely unrelated to the rest of the bank. The wine segment of that company was always a niche and just a cool thing that they could hang their hat on.

A lot of the impact from those reports was directly derived from the multitude of winery clients they had at SVB.

Based on what I'm hearing from my friends in the VC space, SVB is open and operational as normal. A lot of them feel like there is no real reason to move at this point, so I'd suspect that the wineries may be in the same boat.

Random ass question…..

I was talking to someone who has pretty similar taste in wine, she was a fan of realm, Macdonald, etc. and she mentioned a wine. I thought it was "Rainier" but really wasn't in a place to ask for the name again, mainly just didn't want to look like a full in front of this person. Google tells me there is no rainier….thinking maybe Ramey?

Anyone here know of Napa labels, particularly with a good Syrah, and a name similar to rainier?

Don't know that they're up there with Realm or MacDonald. Personally,

Yeah, not sure if it's Ramey. That's the closest I could come up with with my limited research

Maybe Rewa?

Probably Ramey, they make more different varieties, and I think they make a Syrah out of Carneros... although a quick Google says Sonoma Coast (maybe same thing?)

I haven't had enough of any of those to judge similarities.... I find Ramey chard's to be overrated for my palate, though

Had a couple of excellent SV wines from George III yesterday for my 50th bday.

2017 Myriad Empyrean
2015 World's End Crossfire

Can't say I've ever had a better cab than the Empyrean, it was perfection.

I've never had a Rubicon. And 2019 wasn't bad out there so I may have to try it.

But then I'd break my rule about not buying wine outside of my normal list. Hmmm…

Rubicon is one of the iconic Napa Cabs.

It may not be "quite" worth the lest price, an absolute bargain at $123, but is old school Napa, not the newer "too" style which I don't prefer.

I would try the 2013-2016 instead of buying the current vintage. Same price and they've aged it for you for years. Still get the 50% off.

2013 and 2016 were 97pts.

14, 15, 16 the 750 price is $255 and the 375 price is $125 for the 14, 15 and $105 for the 16.

Good sampler right there.

All of the older vintages are. I was just mentioning the 375s available as a good way to sample if one is curious.

And on evenings where we only want a glass each (or only one of use is drinking) they're convenient.

Or... if a health issue has sadly limited your consumption, it's a way to try more wine!
