I believe it's on April 7th.

I bought it maybe 3-4 months ago and it was half price.

Now on to Faust. One of the best sub $50 bottles in my opinion.

Picked this one up on site last year. Good, not great, but quite enjoyable nonetheless

I've done really close to dry January to support my fianc doing it, and I've never looked forward to a bottle of wine more than I am the one I'm pouring on Wednesday. Not sure what it's going to be yet, but it won't be a cheap one!

yeah, we bailed out of dry January this weekend. Nothing too crazy, but a champagne and CdP and chardonnay over a couple of nights and shared with our adult children...

What is this dry January you speak of?

The caves at Archery Summit are fun to visit.
Thanks for this rec and Big-Ag for his as well, even though we weren't able to hit Artebury Maresh as they were closed for the month.

I ended up making a reservation at Beaux Freres for 11am on Saturday and had the place to ourselves. The wines were pretty incredible, definitely some of the best Pinots I've ever had (not a huge sample size compared to many here I'm sure, but plenty).

We did also go do the group cave tour at Archery Summit, which, had we not so enjoyed Beaux Freres, would probably have garnered the same reaction. It was fun having the traditional tour though and these were also really nice wines.

If you're in the area and need to soak up the alcohol, there was a very solid Food Pod of trucks in Newburg, OR.

On the food side in Portland, we ate at:

Kachka- can't recommend enough! Very thoughtful dining experience and menu full of sharable Russian and eastern european plates. Tons of herby, pickley, fishy, smoky and other less frequently enjoyed flavors and so well done. Also lots of vodka. They are known for a horseradish flavored in-house infusion in particular.

Pasture PDX- if you're there and want an excellent sandwich directly by the people butchering the meat. Great house ground burger too.

Paadee- Super good modern Thai restaurant where we enjoyed red curry with duck confit, dungeness crab fried rice and one of the better frozen drinks I've ever had.

Ken's Artisan Pizza- This place was apparently on some lists for best pizza in the US, world, etc and had a line before opening when we'd passed by. Decided to give it a go our last day and did think it was very very good pizza, but not worthy of the hype or waiting an hour before opening at 430pm. Living in Denver, I'll take Cart-Driver or Blue Pan over them any day.

Thanks again for the recs!

Awesome write-up! I have heard of Kachka before. Glad you had a good trip.

I think January is one of the best times to visit wine country here in the US. Weather can be sneaky good and you tend to get really great personal service and treatment.

It's 1:34 there already? Should already be having some bubbly by now.

That's seems to be the consensus. Best answer in my impromptu poll has been "When you're awake".

Between the icy weather and a rough day for someone else in my house we're calling January over with a few hours early. Was planning on a big cab to break the fast, but we're having pork tonight so going with my favorite Pinot.

Churchill had an imperial pint of champagne daily at 1pm, amongst another dozen drinks throughout the day, and he lived to 90.

So, 1pm sounds like a good time to start.

I'm pretty sure the queen also had about 4-5 drinks a day, every day for most of her life.

Heard an interview with Larry Hagman where he said he was drinking somewhere around 10-13 BOTTLES of champagne per day when filming Dallas.

Completely disgusting....the amount and to do that with champagne which is a terrible drink of choice but I hate champagne...even a sip of it.

Had a wine dinner last night featuring Paul Jaboulet. I had never focused much on Rhne wines but they were quite enjoyable. Even liked the Viognier which is typically not my cup of tea

Been opening some great wine lately. I've been in the wine industry for a few years now, but am on my last week and am jumping over to a beer industry opportunity. With that transition and wine-appreciative family in town it's been a good wine time.

Had a couple of standout domestic Syrahs, made in a slightly leaner less opulent style. One from Kobler, a winery in Sebastopol. The other from Reeve, a winery in Dry Creek (that actually has never produced a Zinfandel to my knowledge, ironically. They have some vines in Dry Creek but source most of their fruit from elsewhere).

Both wines were in the 13% - 14% range, and excellent on their own and with food.

How is that? Meaning, how did they help you acquire? Did you buy from them or did they refer you to a seller?
