I ordered a bunch of Teeter Totter cabs and chards for my wife. They were offering free upgrades to overnight shipping so I went ahead and said ok.

Then I got this email:

"The wine will be transported via refrigerated truck to the local hub and then delivered via Fed-Ex Priority Overnight to arrive the next day by 10:30am. "

Not exactly priority overnight to me. I guess I'll give it a shot.

We got wine from Justin yesterday evening. The cooling block thing inside was no longer frozen, or even especially cool, but the wine was not hot at all.

If they're packed in styrofoam and sealed correctly, it's pretty difficult for the wine to get hot. The corrugated paper packers are a different story.

If you are getting wine shipped to Texas this time of year and not using cold chain, you are taking a risk.

Just used Vine Vault to get some Spottswoode delivered to Plano using their cold chain. Even though VV is based in Austin they are making weekly deliveries to DFW. Just ask them to pick up your winery order and they'll deliver it to your door.

We opened one of the de Negoce merlot tonight. Good, dry merlot that drinks pretty nice right now. Didn't taste any need to allow it to sit a few weeks if your ready to drink it now. May try the cab franc tomorrow, had the Coombsville cab held over the summer.

Just threw this in the decanter for tonight! My first Tempest, hoping it pairs well with lamb chops and raspberry sauce.

Happy Fathers Day dad's!

I have tempest 13, 14, 17 and look forward to hearing about it! Only tasted on my first visit when they had space in the Chateau Boswell caves.

The wine we got from Justin was a 2017 Savant, a 2017 Reserve Cab, and a 2016 Isosceles. They did a special virtual Happy Hour for Father's Day and those were the wines. We drank some as part of the tasting, and we're taking the rest to share with friends tonight while we watch the premiere of Season 3 of Yellowstone.

This is a stupidly good CdR that is 100% Syrah for $15.
Some of the 2019s that are hitting the market now are showing another great year from the Rhone. You can buy just about anything from 2015 going forward and get an excellent wine.

2016. Finishing my second glass presently, I'm getting raspberry and elderberry on the nose and palate. Full bodied of course, but there's a nice silkiness on the palate.

Now that I have tried a Bard and Tempest, I've decided I'm a huge fan. While undeniably full throttle Napa wines, there is an elegance that facilitates consuming with a meal. My other Napa cabs overwhelm almost any dish.

Nice. How's it drinking? We have a 2015 left so haven't made it to the 2016 yet. I think they are hit and miss with their Super Tuscan. The 2013 was ok, the 2014 was lackluster (worse than 2013), and the 2015 a nice redemption. Hope they keep figuring out what they want to do with it.

We opened a 2015 Proprietary Red from Round Pond and decanted for 45 minutes when a 15 month old had a meltdown right when we sat down for the steak. It really opened up the back half of the wine while we rushed through bathtime, a bottle, and a bedtime story. Pairs great with room temperature strip and panzanella salad.

(In seriousness, the cab/ petit verdot blend is a nice option for steak when serving with light sides. But I'm a sucker for Petit Verdot.)

Very dry and bold. I caught coffee on the back, lots of jammy berries up front.

We decanted it for about an hour. I have 1 or 2 more of these we got from a visit out there, and may have to pull the trigger on a few more.

Falstaff is probably my fave, just can't get it.

I'm done with buying from them though.

Last May I purchased tickets for the October Houston event. Buried my FIL in June and a very close uncle in July. Totally forgot about it. First notice of the event was three hours prior, and I'm 300 miles away.

I made three entreaties to them. Didn't ask for a refund, merely maybe 50% credit (of the ticket price I paid) towards a future purchase. This after spending well over five figures with them. No responses at all.

I like their wine, but there's plenty of good wine I can spend my money on.

Room temp strip and (soggier) panzanella is pretty damn funny. Glad you enjoyed it anyway. Parenthood creates so many great memories for sure.

My wine order through fedex cold shipping arrived about 5pm today and was warm. Is there any recourse?

My wife's grandfather died a couple years ago and her uncle inherited the house. The house had a wine cellar, but he doesn't drink wine. We're the only wine drinkers in the family, so he told us we could have the wine (about 50 bottles). In the collection was a bottle of 2010 and 2011 Screaming Eagle.

Call winery and tell them it's hot and they generally will ship you more.

Do not ship in Texas in the summer. There's only a 4-5 month shipping window that's safe temperature-wise.

I usually don't have an issue with shipments because fedex cold ship is supposed to arrive by 10am I believe. The winery order was a library shipment so not sure they will have anymore to send...I guess I'll give it a shot

I would say be open to their advice. I am not certain that warm bottles are ruined unless corks are pushed.

That is just a side effect in itself, the heat is damaging the wine even without cork movement.

My aunt and uncle took my wife and I to berns in Tampa a year or so ago. I posted pictures from the trip. But she just surprised us with this:

I had a friend that opened a bottle of Texas wild grape wine that a friend of his made and gave to him in 1976. We tried it, and it was not terrible.

I've had better steaks (actually, plenty of times), but the overall experience is hard to beat

Completely agree - but damn if the experience isn't worth the trip! Especially the dessert room upstairs.

Had a bottle of this tonight. It's still a baby, but it went really well with the paella I made on my Weber kettle. Except for the fact that I think I have radiation burns from the heat coming off the Weber, it's been a good evening.
