Just opened a  2006 Ovid Experiment D7.86 

The wine is 61.3% Cabernet Franc, 28.7% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon from Pritchard Hill fruit.  Not too shabby!

Tonight I'm stepping out of my comfort zone and drinking some Bordeaux, a 2003 Les Forts de Latour from Pauillac.

For dessert we are opening a 2005 Chateau de Fargues Sauternes. I had bought this with the intention of drinking it on mother's day but since we are travelling, it got pushed back a bit.

I think I've tried that Sauternes.

Of course, "bad Sauternes" is pretty much an oxymoron...

It's happened to me. I've had some that tasted thin and metallic.

Tonight was a 2010 Rivers Marie chard and a 2007 Seven Stones can with dinner. A damn good wine night if I do say so my damn self!

2007 Turnbull Petite Sirah with pulled pork. Fairly tannic at first, but softened very nicely in the glass.

2005 Cristal.

BSD- report on the Bordeaux? Folks are coming for dinner for my dads birthday and I've got a couple '03 lynch bages I can't wait to get into!

Great $15 bottle of Hahn...

Hahn makes great wines for the price. They are in the rotation for my weekday drinking wines.

Didn't hurt drinking it here at 10pm...

That Les Forts was ready to go. I'd open at least one of those to see how it had aged.

Wines I have enjoyed this weekend include a 2011 flowers Pinot noir, a 2011 flowers Chardonnay, and this bottle here which was most excellent:

OK, gotta ask a couple of questions:

Was it your bottle? If so what was the occasion to actually drink it!?

How was it. Was it better than three $500 bottles, or 15 $100 bottles?

And I am very, very envious right now...

We could always use a good babysitter, I mean, good family!

No it wasn't my bottle. It was the father in laws. He had been saving it for two years for this particular occasion of a family get together. It is a wonderfully bold cab and the second bottle I have had of it.

Is it better than three $500 bottles? I don't think so, but not my decision. Am I appreciative to get to enjoy it? Very much!

We had a very interesting bottle of Santa Maria Cellars Merlot. I really liked it, but I'm still not sure that it was good wine, if you know what I mean. It has a prominent Creme Brulee aroma and finish. Soft on the palate initially, but some nice tannin on the back side. It was very good by itself, but I can't imagine a food it would pair with, other then the obvious Creme Brulee. Oh, and it was completely dry, yet the aroma and finish evoked a hint of sweetness.

The winery is on TX16 between Kerrville and Fredericksburg.

Cecil- I think a big part of answering the: is it "good" question is- how was the headache?

I got bored last night so I booked a trip to Napa for late October. Only 5 more months!!!

No headache at all. As I say, it was a very interesting Merlot. At $20 I'd get a case or so. At $30 I'm not as sure.

We'll be in Napa in August!

Had a nice Tempranillo last night, a2009 Tinto Esquervo.

Helps that it was in Corvallis prior to watching the Ag baseball team win today.

Tried an Argyle Pinot Noir 2010 last night. Very good, but very very light. Went well with some roasted potatoes and grilled chicken breast. Almost more of a rose than what you would think of a red. Would make a great red for the summer.

Got back from Napa a week or so ago. Thanks for the postings on various threads. Silenus didn't disappoint. Also went to Round Pond, Frank Family, Silver Oak, and Chandon. Would recommend Round Pond for their offerings beyond wine and Frank Family as a great noon picnic spot. And Silenus of course.
