Tried troublemaker tonight. It was ok. Might air the next bottle in the decanter for a while. Ghost pines that I noted above is much smoother at the same price point.

Give the troublemaker some air next time. Since it's a multi-year vintage, it needs to breath to "wake up."
Enjoyable wine night. Orin Swift 2009 Phareon and a paradigm 2005 cab.
Needed one more so popped a 2010 Realm. I know it's young but decanted tasted great.

Has anyone tried an '09 Ghost Block yet? I tried one yesterday, and it tasted way oaky and over-extracted. At $109, I was not impressed. I had an '09 Trespass Cabernet that was more than half the price, and was much more balanced and expressive.
Just got an email... the latest vintage of Orin Swift's The Prisoner is going up to $45/bottle.

PSA: the Montrose HEB had 2010 Stags Leap Merlot at $25, marked down from $36 - on Saturday, not sure if its still on.
Attended a wine tasting tonight. Met Dr.Moretti, owner of Tenuta Sette Ponti. He had a really nice Grillo. Liked the Crognolo Toscana (crognolo is a dogwood tree). Really liked the Poggio al Lupo Maremma.

AustinAg, The Prisoner is pricing itself out of its market at $45. To much other very good stuff there. Hall did the same thing a few years ago when they got a big rating, after a couple of years they're bringing the price back down.

It was mine. I had a belly full of over oak soaked cabs and wanted something different. They recommended this rose and I enjoyed it. Much like I enjoy a nice lemonade in the sun after a Shiner Bock binge....

I just realized that I haven't had wine in about a month and probably won't for another week until we leave for vacation. Hmm, 12 spots in the Wine Check...lots of good wine cellared. Tough decisions are ahead!
I went to the unveiling of the 2008 Penfolds Grange last night at Del Frisco's. First time I've ever had a "100 point" wine. It was great, but man a wine like that is just so tight that young. I'm sure anyone with enough coin to buy a case of that will cellar it for a considerable amount of time. It was so firm I would think my young kids could enjoy when they are my age.

It feels like hell, boys. I've actually been working off all the indulgences of last fall before my beach vacation. Don't worry, I'll be having a nice bottle or two every night here soon!
(I did have a few beers in Chicago this last weekend so that was a nice relief)

Tonight's selection - Dutcher Crossing Petite Sirah 2009. Really really excellent.
'09 chateau capbern gasqueton last night to pair with a smoked ribeye roast. Big wine for big beef- perfection!
Last night was a '10 Siduri Sonatera Vineyard Pinot noir, paired with a chicken galantine.
Tonight a 2005 Chateau Ste. Michelle Cabernet Sauvignon Ethos Reserve
