Nice! I said above that I thought the SA was very good. I almost sat it out, not because of the tu thing, but I haven't enjoyed much of anything from Texas. It was so good that I will try not to skip any of the picks going forward.

Definitely. I'm pretty sure the msrp is $199

Well, I was wrong on the price. It was listed at msrp so $199. I went with a Stagg 25A bottle instead that was selling for $119. I might need to brush up on my bourbon knowledge - the liquor store had a number of bottles that looked interesting and nothing totally out of wack price-wise.
People think I'm an idiot or something, because all I do is cut lawns for a living.

A store near me has Charter Oak, Finest Oak for $150. Thoughts?

I love Charter Oak. Havent had the Finest Oak, but would absolutely buy at 150 personally.

It's like an Eagle Rare with more Oak IMO. Really good, but for $150 I'd rather get a Stagg or pony up a couple more bucks for an EHT BP at secondary. FIL got one at $100 over XMas and would say it's solid at that price.

Not worth it. Barely worth retail. It's like a standard low proof toasted barrel with a ton of sweetness.

Is it odd that it is almost the end of March and no ECBP yet?

I am new to all of this, but I went to Remedy today to pick up the Penelope selection and saw bottles I have only heard about but never found in BCS.

Is there a comparable store in BCS?

Beta would know maybe but stores like remedy and OLC are just awesome and few and far between (in my experience)

I have long wanted Remedy to open a location in DFW.

Good luck everyone in the next Sazerac Barrel Select drawing, just got the email it is coming up.

Looks like its Buffalo Trace this time so make sure it is in your preferences.

https://www.foodandwine.com/buffalo-trace-daniel-weller-spelt-wheat-bourbon-11932685

"Buffalo Trace's Daniel Weller Spelt Wheat is the second release in its experimental Daniel Weller series, following 2023's Emmer Wheat. The new wheated bourbon uses spelt, a grain more commonly found in baking and brewing than in whiskey.

Aged for 10 years and bottled at 94 proof, the bourbon was made without special barrel techniques to emphasize the grain's influence on the mashbill.

The limited-release whiskey honors Daniel Weller's legacy and will roll out to select U.S. retailers in March 2026 with a suggested retail price of $550."

They are all under the Sazerac umbrella, same reason the 1792 and Bowman are in there.

Was gifted a bottle of Chestnut Farms by my stepmom, she was so excited. The Total Wine person told her it was made by Buffalo Trace…..
(For those not in the know it is distilled at Barton 1792, which is owned by Sazerac). Since it was owned by the same company that owns BT they figured they could say some keywords and make a sale..

Finally grabbed a Stagg today at Longhorn Liquor in the Heights.

Had quite a few of all the allocations. They are sampling all of their picks so that was helpful in picking something I actually like.

All the allocations were msrp.

They had about 10. I grabbed a Woodenville and Nine Banded that were awesome.

Had two different William Price, a Whistlepig, Elijah Craig and a few others that were pricier than I cared for

I'm sure this has been discussed by now, but I'm just dropping in to say that the Fatty's Liquor in south College Station has a pretty strong selection. In fact, there's stuff in there that I've rarely seen in this market.

I just picked up a Willett Purple Top (there were still a dozen on the shelf) and a 13th Colony Maple Cask Strength.

Some other bottles on the shelf were:
- EH Taylor Single Barrel
- EH Taylor Rye
- Pursuit Double Oaked
- Woodford Master Distillers Cask Strength
- Nashville Barrel Co Cask Strength pick
- Garrison Bros Balmorhea
- Elijah Craig 18 Year
- Elijah Craig Barrel Proof Rye
- Maker's Mark Wood Finish Series
- Green River Wheated Full Proof

They have those items readily available because their pricing is consistently the highest in the area and their allocations meet or exceed secondary markets. That said, they're always friendly and worthy of a visit if you're south of town. To each their own.
