That could very well track for when I bought it. That would mean the juice is SW.

You wanna sell it?

Depends greatly on the label. 15 years old now? Or 15 years from when SW went defunct.

REALLY love the new packaging on the 100 proof single barrels. Seems long overdue to use and brand the bottles with more recipes.

Interesting. Maybe we can get more volume than the barrel proof.

Anyone tried these 4R 100 proof bottles yet? I see the different recipes. Curious if they are being well received not being at barrel proof.

And my dry 2024 is complete and finished. Monsoon 25 has commenced. So far I have opened and tasted an B523 ECBP, a B524 Larceny BP, an Evan Williams 12 year my brother bought me from the distillery last year and a MWND Act 12 scene 7 I bought at secondary $199 several weeks ago.

I don't regret my MWND purchase. I love this flavor profile. The ECBP has always been my jam so it hits just how I want it. EW12 I am glad to try something new. It's ok. Nothing worth going out of my way for in the future though. Larceny BP is a reasonably good substitute for the ECBP if my bunker is out of it. I would probably have it equivalent roughly to KC 9yr at 120 proof, which probably I would prefer to the Larceny BP anyway. And much easier to find as it's everywhere.

My next two bottles to open from my bunker are an Old Fitz 12 from roughly a decade ago ie not the current version. And a Blantons SFTB in my bunker from roughly a decade ago.

Long live monsoon 2025.

Was able to pickup a bottle of the Penelope Estate 10yr SiB (105proof , 60/36/4 mashbill) a couple weeks back off the shelf in McKinney. Cracked last night to toast the sips demise. Out****ingstanding! Talk about a flavor bomb at only 105 proof. Nice spice on the finish but not overpowering. Quite possibly one of my favorites this year. Thought it was significantly better than OF1924 and on par with the best OF SBBS I've had, even at the lower proof. And I'm a huge OF stan. I know I know, Penelope = MGP. But the higher aged MGP is pretty damn legit

I'm a fan of Penelope. I just picked up the Havana last week. Haven't cracked it yet. I have the 10 yr one as well but would like to get another one before I open it.

Which 10 yr Estate? I think there are two different mashbills for the 105 proof. And they have a 98 proof as well IIRC. I know everyone loves the Rio but I think it's too sweet for my palate . I love the Valencia though. It's frosted Orange Pound Cake in a bottle. Delicious. Also, their 15 year American Light Whiskey, while not a bourbon, is quite tasty

Got a little rec for anyone who winds up in St Maarten. There is a bourbon shop in Phillipsburg called Gulmohars that has a great selection. Spoke with the owner for a while and he's the exclusive retailer for BT on the island. Sells his stuff above US retail but well under secondary. He said he doesn't get much Antique Collection and sells that by the shot in his bar. I was thrilled with my haul.

It would be cool if someone did airbnb type rentals that offered different whiskey packages. You get 3 bottles that are yours to drink/take home if you don't finish.

Yeah, something like that would be pretty cool. Obviously I am sure that already exists in big cities but I don't know if it exists in smaller towns like CSTAT

Saw this posted on r/bourbon. Long article but a good one.

Quote:

Bourbon started growing in popularity in the early 2000s after a long stint in the doldrums. Its comeback was helped by television shows like "Mad Men," which featured 1960s advertising executives sipping on bourbon through the day. By 2015 the industry was so hot that barrels were in short supply, bourbon enthusiasts were stockpiling and distillery workers routinely pulling 80-hour weeks went on strike complaining they were overworked.

Over the past decade production has kept climbing. Kentucky alone produced 3.2 million barrels of bourbon in 2023 and had a record 14.3 million barrels aging at the start of last year, according to the KDA.

While a decade ago bourbon makers couldn't keep up, now there is a consensus that they have overproduced.

"We're in a very serious correction right now which is perhaps overdue," said Ken Lewis, who owns Newport, Ky.-based New Riff Distilling. The Kentucky bourbon industry is making nearly three times as much as it is currently selling, Lewis estimates.

Some investors who jumped into bourbon to make a quick buck when times were good are now dumping stock, exacerbating the glut of barrels.

"The bourbon boom brought a tremendous amount of money into the industry and a lot of that was for the wrong reasons," said Lewis. "In some ways it's good riddance."

Alarm bells rang in the industry back in October when MGP Ingredients, a major contract distiller that makes booze for other brands, warned that some of its smaller customers were struggling to make good on their obligations to buy whiskey.

I don't think we'll get back to the good old days as to what you can find on the shelf but maybe we get to circa 2015 or so (ER, EHT, Blanton's all on the shelf)
