My unsolicited $0.02:

- PVW 20 & 23 are just ok if you like oak bombs, and both lost in a blind to the 15 and ORVW for me
- THH usually isn't the best high proof rye that will release in a given year, and costs like 3x more than it should
- ER17 gets lost in the mix because of proof snobs

Would definitely drink it if I am lucky enough to win. But I guess secondary value sorta matters as well. Like I feel like I could drop $400 on some THH for a special occasion but would never spend $4k+ on a bottle of Pappy

Tom Cardy is spot on in his assessment.

If you win one of those Pappys older than 15 you sell it and finance your purchases for a year. I'd sell all of the ryes as well. The rest are easily worth keeping.

I don't think ranking less desirable increases your odds. It's just if you get drawn then they go down the list and give you the highest that is available.

That said I prioritized WLW.

I'm in a small Bourbon group called Pour It Forward where we send a blind sample pack of banger bottles to someone, then they pass it on, etc. Then we just have a group chat we hang out in. One of the guys in there got the bottle in a lottery and already had one so he offered it to me at cost knowing I was the only one in the group that didn't own a BTAC. I was totally shocked, but it's good people in there.

Awesome story thanks for sharing.

GTS is the only BTAC bottle I have, waiting to crack it until the holidays. Hunting for WLW and ER17 if I can find at a reasonable price.

When I got my mega-lot of bourbon, I had about 6 BTAC. Kept a few BTAC, but I needed to get my money back out of the entire lot (40 something bottles). Those were the highest price and easiest to sell. Had the option of keeping 4-5 great bottles or 1 BTAC for the same price. Tough decisions all around.

Made the rounds in College Station tonight.

I picked up a Cask Strength Redwood Empire Last Monarch at Total Wine and then got lucky and nabbed the last Blue Note Juke Joint Uncut Unfiltered Single Barrel on the shelf at Spec's.

I know they're both fairly common bottles, but I haven't been able to ever get my hands on either. Excited to have a pour while watching the World Series.

Common but not. I don't see that blue note often but when I do, I buy it. Very good pour.

Also, when did the price on the Old Forester King Ranch take off? I hadn't seen them in a while then tonight they were on the shelf at Total Wine and Spec's, but it was almost $100 at both spots.

Has it always been that high? Maybe I'm just misremembering it?

The GTS? If so you're in for a treat. I enjoyed this pour for about an hour. You wouldn't know it was 135 proof. Nose was vanilla and pineapple dum dumps of all things. Palate was cherry, fall spices, subtle oak, and vanilla for days. Long long finish.
