Im guessing that was the oldest? There others were all higher proof, were they just too hot? or did the age come through better on this one.
As someone who isn't a proofhead 116 is about right on that 105-115 range i prefer.

We didn't have ages available for the pick time, it was functionally blind outside of barrel number and proof.
I wouldn't say we had consensus on anything outside of eliminating one of the 5 they sent. The other 4 were all in contention for a while and we ended up blinding 3 against each other. The final vote was 3/6 on this one, with the other 2 barrels splitting votes.
The winner was a good all-rounder. My opinion on it specifically was that the palate was a little less complex than the others, but the nose and finish were more enjoyable. This barrel wouldn't qualify as one that has some crazy unique characteristic or taste, although some of the others had distinct notes like bubblegum or heavy barrel char. Other pickers may chime in with their own opinions, as we all had some slight differences in preference.
Nose: syrupy butterscotch and maple, some light grains on the front. Light oak without being tannic
Palate: classic vanilla/caramel, turning to honey & bright cherry. Some barrel char, but not overbearing. Some cinnamon as it moves toward the finish.
Finish: light fruits (pear/peach), medium-long finish, some cinnamon spice but not "hot"
At least one other picker described this as one that you could drink more than one pour of without feeling like it was too heavy or intense.

I definitely think y'all made the right call on going for a good solid all-around choice versus an oddball. Those barrels can be fun but can also be very polarizing.

I'll chime in on this since I was one of the 3/6 that didn't have this barrel as my number one choice. I actually had it tied for number one through most of the pick. In the end I had it as my number two, and I believe 5/6 of us placed it as #1 or #2.
All three barrels in the final blind were fantastic pours and I would have been happy with any of them. I didn't save my tasting notes but what Tom Cardy shared above is pretty spot on. What really stood out to me about this barrel was the long finish. It was the lowest proof barrel but the finish went on for days and made it a great pour from start to finish.
The ages weren't on the samples, but I remember someone at the pick saying they were all 8 or 9 year old barrels. So great age statement, great proof, great sip.
