Yessir.

The more we have those "uncomfortable" talks with our kids, the more comfortable they become. I want my daughters to tell me everything in life so I can be there for them.

PSA:

No one is allowed to drink Kentucky bourbon today.

Smoke Wagon, Rebecca Creek, Garrison Brothers, MGP Juice are acceptable. Find your self a good pour of Frey Ranch or Jack Daniel's Single Barrel Barrel Proof.

Is their plain ol Frey Ranch worth going for or just the single barrel & limited stuff?

That's a great question. I hear nothing but good things about the juice in general.

I think it's better than most "standard" bourbon offerings.

Once I was past the neck pour I am really enjoying my bottle. Uncut farm strength is good as well.

If I were getting a bottle of the three you can usually find in store (regular, rye, uncut), I'd go for the rye.

What if I don't drink it, but guzzle it? WT 101 goes down pretty quickly, you know.

Reminds me, back when I was younger, our company had an event in the Astros luxury box. I got there and started drinking Crown. Before we left, I went to get one more before leaving. Dude told me that they were out. I said, wow. A fifth in one night, how many were drinking it.

He said: "One".

But, that was over about a 5 hour period.

Did you ask "Gimmie anosher krown'n' hotdogs...asthink I usea 1 morsh for the raods"

If you polished off a fifth I'd be surprised if you were still standing let alone coherent.

I have been pleased with all Frey Ranch offers...
in order i like..

1. Single Barrel BP Select (Total Wine)
2. Frey Ranch "normal" (90 proof)
3. Uncut

But all are pretty good.

I'm a complete bourbon beginner. I'm not sure if I have adequate tasting or smelling facilities for this but I'm trying. I still get blown away from even 90 proof and I can't seem to distinguish most flavors but I'm trying.

I tried a new bottle of RR 10 year (new label) and it was the worst tasting sip I've had so far in my small collection. I was really surprised but this is my first WT product. The nose and first half of the palate was good but the back and finish was terrible. I started it neat and eventually added an ice cube but it didn't help. Going to give the bottle a month or two to settle before trying again.

I tried it in an old fashioned and it tasted fine but everything taste good in that.

Everyone is different.

RR10 is the favorite bottle I own.

I'm definitely going to give it a few more chances. The nose and the initial taste was really good (though I'm not able to identify why it is good yet!).

Id skip the Allocated and high proof bottles in the list. If they can't pick out flavors on RR10 and get blown away at 90 proof all they will get from ECBP and the like is ethanol.

Id start with -

Old Forester 86 or 100
Makers Mark
4r SBS (50ml bottle)
WT 101
Buffalo Trace (or Bowman Brothers)
WSR
Beam 7yr

and buy as many different mid-tier 50ml bottles as i can find.

If they can point out which of those bottles they like the most then we can figure out what profiles they prefer.

I hope to get to high proof at a some point but none of my friends are into bourbon or high ABV products. I need to have a stable of low to mid proof or I'm drinking by myself.

Of what I have:

Like - WR double oaked, 4R SBS

OK - Maker's 46, BT, BH Toast

Dislike - RR10

Unopened - EHT SB

I can see why you have trouble finding people to drink bourbon with. From what i understand people in round Rock drink a lot of Vodka spritzers and listen to Taylor Swift.

as far as the two in your like list, the EHT is probably a good combination of those two with a fruitiness and strong oak flavors.

You might like Heaven Hill products as well as other BT products like ER or Bowman Brothers.

It does seem like the bourbon scene is non-existent in RR. Seems like all the good stores are more central or south Austin.

Say less. Just bought a house in round rock.

We do a bottle share every so often. Let's just say you will want to get an Uber after you are done with our bottle share nights. We'd love to have you and introduce you to some good stuff. You can see what to chase and not to chase.

Go to Oak Liquor Cabinet in North Austin and ask for Raju and tell him Santiago sent you. He's got tons of great drinkers available great prices.

I'm in Brushy Creek, off of 620.

Perhaps a big ice cube would help. RR private barrels picks never disappoint for me.

Therapist will be your high proof friend.

You seem to be more in the double oak realm, which was definitively where I started. They tend to be sweeter. To me the WT products seem to be less on that side, but I liked EC TB & OF1920 a ton. EC less so now, but it started very high on my list.

Definitely try it again, some of my favorite bottles started off with a bad first impression. One of my favorite bottles was a Bardstown Discovery 4 that I got for Father's Day a couple years ago. I was so disappointed with the my first pour (especially given the price of the bottle). But after that initial experience, every pour I had from that bottle was incredible. Welcome to the group!

LOL

I'm actually probably right next to you. But I'm a super lightweight unfortunately. Body just cannot take more than a couple servings of whatever beverage. I enjoy it but just can't enjoy it in any substantial quantity.

When drinking high proof, slosh the first sip around your mouth. Kills the nerves and lets you get the flavors of the bourbon.

I'm a newbie myself.
