Cracked an Old Elk Port Finished last night. Gotta say I am a big fan. At 108 its almost perfect (120 would be amazing, and I am not a proof head)with tons of berries, a little hint of lemon and a soft, lingering finish. Very tasty!

Ran into it yesterday. Didn't buy it but I remember hearing it was hard to get ahold of. Not sure if it was just for special releases or just the standard bottles.

Picked up some of the Buffalo Trace White Dog today on a whim. Anybody tried it and have any recommendations for how to drink it other than trying it straight?

First thing I'd do is get a fresh oak barrel, then age it a few years.

For real, it isn't my taste, but I know some people love it.

I hear it's more of a novelty item than legitimate drink.

Was hot stuff for a bit and the early releases were very good. If you run across a batch 1 or 2 rye, they are phenomenal. It's since been sold off and the 2 owners now have their own brands, 2XO and Old Carter. Both are good, but not as good as some of the early Kentucky Owl stuff - there maybe old Carter as good, but I haven't had much of it. Met the owner at a bar when I was up there for our wilderness trail pick and sat in on his WT rye pick, interesting nice guy.

How much did you find the CEHT for?

$85. A little more than I like to pay, but not too bad. It'll end up being a birthday gift for my brother!

Some stuff is still pretty good. This year's St. Patrick's Day I won from Bourbon Santa a few weeks before he passed. I also have a barrel pick from a few years ago that's real good.
