Haha I tried. I went OWA, WFP, WLW so was feeling pretty good at the time.

Haven't had the other two, but heard they're great.

I'm moving from Texas to Colorado next month so I haven't bought any new bottles of bourbon.

So all I have is a couple bottles of WT101 left over from my wedding. I have a list that I plan on getting once I get settled though.

What is the difference between a wheated bourbon and a rye?

I know the technical difference but what about the taste difference?

Wheaters are typically lighter and I get sweeter vanilla/honey notes. Rye's have a spice finish

You'll typically get a more forward fruity note on wheaters as well. Ryes are spicy like everyone has mentioned, but I also think of grain forward as a good way to describe them.

Anything Weller is going to be just about as wheated as it gets, although Frey Ranch apparently makes a 100% wheat whiskey that sounds fun to try, but for something more obtainable I really don't think there's a lot of better options than Ben Holladay Soft Red Wheat (either the Bottled-in-Bond or Rickhouse Proof).

Because you're moving to Colorado (congrats btw, that's a big life milestone that you should enjoy), I would also try to find an Old Elk (from Fort Collins Colorado) Wheated Bourbon.

Don't sleep on Holliday Soft Red Wheat- rickhouse proof is very tasty!

I'm dying to get my hands on some distillery only stuff from them.

Hmm- I am intrigued! Had a store pick rickhouse soft red wheat sample and it was pretty darn good as well. I think I saw on Seelbach's that they have a 7 year bourbon. May need to roadtrip!

For Wheated I know everyone loves their weller. But don't sleep On Makers 46 esp the barrel strength or french oaked. Private selection goes without saying.
