Rare Breed is great. If you want a lower proof before stepping up to that Russel's Reserve 10 year is a good medium.

I would recommend trying the highly available offering from each of the major distillers to get an idea of what else you may like. some suggestions for each -

Brown-Foreman - get a bottle of OF 100, Maybe some OF Rye and some 50ml bottles of Woodford and Jack Single Barrel

Beam - Knob Creek 9 100 proof.

Makers - Regular Makers or Makers 46

Buffalo Trace - Buffalo Trace.

Barton - 1792

Heaven Hill - EC Small Batch

Four Roses - Small batch select

Turkey - WT 101 or RR 10.

you should be able to find a 50ml bottle for all but a few of those and that will give you a pretty varied set of profiles to help you discover what you may prefer.

Old Fitz is another odd whiskey imo, in that they have released whiskey almost every year between 8 & 19 years, so it's kind of inconsistent in that way.

I bought a bottle of Blantons while I was in Japan in May. Doc told me recently that I need to cut out hard alcohol (amongst other things that I love). Does anyone know of any sites where I can put it up for sale legally?

This is a fantastic list for someone who is getting into bourbon to buy and figure out what they like.

I may not be the right person to answer this, because I haven't had that bourbon.
But, I don't think anything Jefferson sales is worth more than $50.
As you can tell, not a fan.

Give me 95% of established distillers over them any day.

I am sure he wanted to treat his friends with something special and so he purchased this for $300 to honor the big day and make memories.

Not sure where he is at in his bourbon journey, but there is much cheaper stuff that taste way better on secondary.

OWA, Blantons, Eagle Rare, EHT Single Barrel or Small Batch, Weller Full Proof, 4 Roses, Heaven Hill Products...

But who am I to tell the groom how he spends his money. Let the man feel like a baller. As the poster above said, Most Jefferson's offerings is expensive and not satisfying.

It has pretty decent reviews on the web. I agree that Jefferson's is almost always one to pass over but this might be a pretty decent blend, maybe not 300 good but **** it, as long as they enjoy it who cares.

The groomsmen seemed to enjoy it and the bottle was emptied at some point because I went back to the room we all changed into our tux's and the bottle was dry. He also picked out the bourbon that would be served at the reception. I think this was a good pick.

Great choice. Good enough that people can go neat or on the rocks, not so pricey that you're pissed when Uncle Eddie mixes it with Canada Dry.
