Smoke Wagon fell off. It's trash now.
I think we've clearly established that you and I have opposite palates. Just completely disagree.MarathonAg12 said:

Lol RC16 is fantastic. But I have been suuuuper disappointed with the RC Spanish Oak after all the hype on this page.MarathonAg12 said:

Yeah I think the RC Spanish Oak is gross. Has the semi-sweet Texas funk of all the other Texas whiskies I hate.MarathonAg12 said:William Larue Weller said:Lol RC16 is fantastic. But I have been suuuuper disappointed with the RC Spanish Oak after all the hype on this page.MarathonAg12 said:

Yes, you can. Would rather someone that likes the Spanish Oak have them, now that I've tried it. I was hopeful it would taste like non-Texas bourbon like the RC16, but I can't get over the Texas funk. Our water is just not made for good whiskey.MarathonAg12 said:William Larue Weller said:Yeah I think the RC Spanish Oak is gross. You reserved two bottles of the TexAgs Spanish Oak pick. Would you like me to give them to the next two people on the waitlist?
Yessir, always want stuff to go to people who will appreciate it.MarathonAg12 said:
Awesome. I understand we all have different palates man. No issues.
I appreciate you passing them on.
I'll update the list tonight!
I was under the impression that this was MGP cut with RC distillate. Looking at the press release from when they announced the Spanish Oak, it appears I was mistaken and the SO is solely MGP distillate. Not sure if it's the Texas heat or I just don't like whiskey aged in Spanish Oak barrels, but it has a funky sweetness to it that I just don't enjoy.SpiderDude said:
I don't get the Texas Funk on it personally. I think it drinks like something much older than what it is...and the dark color makes it seem that way also. I love me some MGP so I'll never complain. Once it's gone (and those barrels will be gone soon) I think people will continue to seek it on secondary IMHO. I was happy to trade ECTB 1:1 for it recently.

That makes sense and describes the flavor very well. I don't like the pecan syrup notes.ryeguy said:
Correct, MGP distillate placed in new Spanish Oak barrels for 4 years here in Texas and then transferred to a second fill ex bourbon barrel for 2 more years. It's not Texas funk, it's Spanish Oak funk. I dig it because it's very pecan syrup with a little bit of MGP cherry.
Perfect reason for a 5 o'clock pour!!digging tunnels said:
I didn't see it mentioned earlier today, unless I missed it, but today is National Bourbon Day
Celebrate it well tonight friends
Different type of wood on the barrels... and an extra 10 years surely helpsMarathonAg12 said:
RC 16:
75% corn, 21% rye and 4% barley
Spanish Oak:
75% corn, 21% rye and 4% malted barley
Not back peddling at all - I admitted I was incorrect about the source of the juice. Doesn't change that it has a funky sweetness I don't like that tastes like Texas funk to me, which I am guessing is attributable to the Spanish Oak barrels. And pecan syrup is a good descriptor of the funky sweet note that I do not enjoy. Anyone who would try to claim that RC16 tastes anything remotely similar to RC SO, though, needs to go have a Covid test asap, because their tongue is broken.MarathonAg12 said:
Just funny to see the back peddling from saying it had Texas funk, then you not realizing it was MGP juice, then calling it a "funky sweetness", then saying you don't like syrup pecans notes

Honestly. People have told me they prefer Spanish Oak over RC16.
Spanish Oak is a better pour. And you cannot beat the price.
