Nah, I went to bevy's. My wife's uncle is tight with James who is the store manager. James will usually text him when they do a big drop and then he tells me.

i talked the whiskey guy at bevy's and he says he is totally open and will tell anyone that asks when shipments are coming in. He simply doesn't advertise on facebook or elsewhere.

So not much legwork to get in the know.

He said he gets 12 blanton's a month, which surely go fast, but once a year he gets a barrel which is 150+, so much easier to get. I went in unknowingly around 11am, 2 hours after open, and there were 20 left.

But my neighbor went in an hour later, and only 3, so lasted 3 hours after open.

It's always friday.

They usually do a drop of allocated stuff every third Friday. I heard some goons were waiting out in front of the store at 3am so they could get one of the 6 EH Taylor single barrels.

Grabbed this today. Was the last one at TW Heights. Also grabbed a couple Penelope Toasted at Longhorn on Shepherd. Their toasted is my new favorite.

Happened to see Knob Creek 12 at Ranch House Spirits in Cuero on Friday night if anybody is in the area and wants some. I think they had two left Friday night.

Tipsy Oak, in Arlington, is an enjoyable place. Good good and live music. Right around the corner is Dynorock, a rock climbing gym if you want to do something different.

Calling all 12th Man Taters

Still Austin Release 12!

This month's spirit is remarkable for its intense ripe cherry nose, hinting of cherries jubilee, dark chocolate-covered cherries, maple walnut fudge, and root beer float with French vanilla ice cream. The palate brings offerings of cherry liqueur, Mexican hot chocolate with cinnamon and chipotle, plum pudding, and carrot
cake with cream cheese icing. The finish is thick and luscious, with long waves of brandied cherries and buttery, cinnamon-flaked pie crust.

I think the pretentious "experts" who come up with tasting notes like these just throw darts at dart boards with flavor buzzwords.

Woodford Double Oaked is often available in duty free and that is my go to when traveling abroad. So good.

Woodford Double Oaked is $57 for 750 mL at Spec's, so $60 for 1 L is a pretty good price. Same for Basil Hayden. $45 for 750 mL at Spec's vs $50 for 1 L on the ship.

I mean most the prices aren't really bad at all. Especially when considering it's duty free. That's why it stood out to me.

But they also have a shelf full when most stores don't seem to anymore…..

May pick up a bottle. Was going to get the woodford reserve as well, but haven't asked the price of it yet.

If I really liked Blanton's for the msrp then id be all over that slightly inflated price. My problem with blanton's is I don't love it and I need to love it to spend more than $50 on a bottle

Kind of funny story. We bought a couple cases of Blantons, back when it was easy to find, for our wedding and forgot a case at the house. So I'm set on blantons for the foreseeable future.

Then you're good imo. If I could get it at $50 it'd be a bottle I would always keep in the cabinet. As it is, I buy it 2 or 2 times a year and only when I catch it around $80 or $90.

90% of "flavor" is from the nose. So if the tastes doesn't match the flavor, seriously wrong. Palete is more about sweet/savory/umami, but not specific detailed flavors.

Just drives me nuts. 95% of humans can't detect more than 4 specific flavors. And they have to be really different from each other from 1 sample.

Good Evening Ags!

I have received confirmation from Rebecca Creek that we have been selected to do a Private Spanish Oak Pick. (One of their final 12 barrels remaining) We have chosen 4 barrels to sample and one of them is the highest proof that Rebecca Creek has ever released of their own distillate. If you love RC's Spanish Oak offering, you will want a bottle of this.

Yet another fatal US Army Helicopter crashed occurred this past week involving two Apaches. I have personally reached out to the Blue Skies Foundation, who help Gold Star Families impacted by Army Aviation mishaps. Together we will help our nation's finest and their loved ones. I will create the official thread for this pick tomorrow. 2 BOTTLE LIMIT AND $10 donation required per bottle requested. I am setting aside a few bottles to be raffled off in different groups on behalf of Blue Skies. If you would like to donate more then I will not hold you back.

Let's do this.
