Yes the high proof ones 120+ are trading close to double the low proofers. I paid 375 for my 131 proof

For those in the DFW area, there is a whiskey club chili cookoff at Whiskey Cake Irving tomorrow at Noon. Six different whiskey clubs are teaming up for this. $40 per person goes in part to Crisis Ministries, and gets you 2 drink tickets, whiskey and beer sponsor samples, and 12 cook teams worth of chili.

For reference when i won a GTS and WLW a few years back there were ~23k entries. I'm sure at this point people are signing up their wife, kids, dogs, etc.

One other interesting thing is that ABC got 3 bottles. One for the customer lottery, one for the licensee lottery and one for accidental breakage. I'm very curious to see where that third one ends up.

A group of six of us did it last April. My first distillery tour, but I thought it was pretty cool- no tasting from barrels though! Cocktails in their bar while you wait or after were very good! Their rick houses are in Mexia, so just get to see the distillery, bottling, and a tasting.

If you can sample it somewhere first I'd recommend a bottle Stranahan's Single Barrel Cask Strength (made in Denver). I've never had any of their regular offerings but picked up a bottle (5yrs 6mo 115 proof) during the ABC "store pick" weekend. at 65 bucks it aint cheap but i enjoyed it enough to buy a few more bottles.
It has a heavy malt flavor and a pretty oily mouthfeel.

Denver should have a lot. CO is state controlled and I have had good luck hunting there. Distribution starts in Denver. Ski towns want a premium but I have found MSRP outside of them.
