For sure. Just never seen it at a store. This place had ORVW, Yamazaki 18 and some other good stuff. I'm not into the flipping game but someone could probably do ok with what he had.

If I only had 2, I would try for BT and Michter's. Not sure if that's feasible, though. I've heard heaven hill has a great tour as well and if you can get the self-bottling experience it's awesome

Just a personal belief that even in the ~$25/750ml range there are much much better options.

You have my attention. What are your preferences?

Bonus points if they're more easily attainable.

This is my local shop, they do a charity auction for the allocated stuff every year. This is year 6 or so I think. Crazy to see how these prices just continue to creep up every year.

In case you're wondering street value of anything these days, in denver burbs anyway.

It's located in a high income area, so might be skewed a bit.

I'll take Bulleit, OF100, MM, and BT all day over Weller SR.

And that's why we love the bourbon community. To each their own. Everyone has a different palette and that's great. Period. No reason to dog ANYONE about their personal opinion.

I ****ing HATE cilantro but actually keep my opinion to myself because...why not?

Edit: I really enjoy Bulleit, OF100, MM, and BT as well! Lucky me I guess LMFAO.

Absolutely. WSR is a great wheated bourbon. I've thrown it blind tastings and people always enjoy it. And supporting your local mom and pop shop will pay dividends later.

Nothing wrong with it at all. It's a $40-45 bottle in Houston. The price is what I assumed the post was about

I wouldn't sleep on the KC Rye. I've been a part of two, and had a few others that were damn ass good.

If they have a sample bottle open, try it. There can be some wild variations like with all whiskey. In the last pick we did, one of the samples was a clear drain pour and the other two were so good the owner almost got both

I like the KC Rye for cocktails but it's not much of a sipper for me as a proof head. The cask rye is better when you can find it.

It's dusty (literally) so it should be right up your alley.

Just hold on to it for me until I come to Katy again. You won't appreciate it.

Anyone interested in a 170+ year old whiskey aged at the bottom of Lake Michigan?

Quote:

The story starts on an ill-fated evening in December of 1854. A passenger steamer called The Westmoreland foundered in the frigid waters of northern Lake Michigan. In addition to the 17 lives lost that night were the contents of the ship's hull, which included 280 barrels worth of whiskey.

...

And it's not just collectors who are clamoring for a taste. As first reported by The Mirror, earlier this month, Richardson says that a regional distillery wants to salvage the juicefor scientific research. "The genetic makeup of corn was much different in 1854 and may have had a different taste to today's corn," he told the newspaper.

Traverse City Whiskey Co. would be the most likely candidate for this sort of project. One of Michigan's largest craft distilleries, it sits mere miles from the site of the wreck.

I can imagine how any of the barrels would have remained water proof after all of this time but it will be interesting to see if anything even comes of this.
