About $100 cheaper than I've normally seen on secondary.

I've seen it go for $850 at times too, but usually $800. So you'd get an extra $100-150 of trade value

Opened up the bottle of Stranahan's Single Barrel Cask Strength Whiskey i bought a few weeks ago. This was part of the batch of bottles that were being sold that were "picks" for Virginia. The VA picks are all done by the distillery to the best of my knowledge.

The bottle i grabbed was aged 5 years 6 months (115 proof) but i did notice at another store their bottles were < 5 years which i thought was strange.

Being a 100% barley malt it is certainly something different but as a change of pace its not bad. It tastes nothing like a scotch or a burbon but like some kid of ******* child of both. Heavy caramel and butterscotch flavors and very full. Certainly not something to drink on a daily basis but if looking for something different its worth picking up.

So what's the future of bourbon? I have no clue but just speculating - but distilleries went on a mad dash to build more and more rickhouses in attempt to catch up with demand (at least so I thought). My bet is that nothing changes and they hold barrels back to age longer and come up with more allocated lines (like Old Fitzgerald 15, 16, etc. )

I like it. Pretty different than any other OF product.

It's limited to Texas but word is they will have another release this year. I wouldn't pay more than $75 for it though. MSRP is around $60 to $65

It's overpriced to begin with. OF's version of Wild Turkey's longbranch

Out of curiosity, how much was he selling it for? $100+?

I got it for 65.00. He was limiting it to 1 bottle per customer. I think he had about 5 when I got mine.

I was able to try some from a buddy over the holidays. It's not something I'd chase after, but if you like OF then it's right up your alley. Sits somewhere between 1910 and 1920 and the "smoke" isn't really a big part of it.

It's good marketing by OF, but don't pay anything above retail for it please

Definitely over $100, I think it was in the $200 range if I remember correctly. This place has some good finds sitting on the shelf, but there's a reason they're still sitting there. $$$$

I like their double oaked. So I'd probably like this too. Will it be one I can find, or something that will be hunted into stupidity?

These usually come out at $125 at retail. People buy them, realize they can't flip it, then end up letting it go for less than what they bought it for in trade value. They will be on the shelves after the initial tater shock....especially at 90.4 Proof

That's highway robbery. I use to see them at my twins but passed on it every-time. I'd be happy to give it to you at cost if I ever find it again.

An Oregan state official caught pocketing burbon for themselves.

Quote:

SALEM, Ore. A thirst for rare bottles of bourbon appears set to have cost the executive director and other top officials of Oregon's liquor and marijuana regulating agency their jobs.
An internal investigation by the Oregon Liquor and Cannabis Commission, obtained by The Associated Press via public records request Wednesday, concluded that Executive Director Steve Marks and five other agency officials had diverted sought-after bourbons, including Pappy Van Winkle's 23-year-old whiskey, for their personal use.

The officials were paying for the whiskey, which can cost thousands of dollars a bottle, but they had used their knowledge and connections at the commission to obtain them, and consequently deprived members of the public of the spendy booze, the investigation said. And that violated Oregon statutes, including one that prohibits public officials from using confidential information for personal gain, the commission's investigation said.

Best part of the article is the guy denying it was an ethics violation because he didn't sell the bottle-

Quote:

In his responses to questions from the investigator, Marks denied that he had violated Oregon ethics laws and state policy. However, he acknowledged that he had received preferential treatment "to some extent" in obtaining the whiskey as a commission employee. Marks and the other officials said they never resold the whiskeys they obtained.

I saw one at Spec's the day they got a shipment in, but I'm new to Bourbon so I didn't know if it was anything special so I passed on it. A week or so later I was at a local store that had one. I knew it was in the $60-70 range so I asked for it and they got it down off the top shelf. I didn't notice the price until he handed it to me…$150. I put it right back and then he said he could let me have it for $140. I just told myself, "I'm sure you could."

I have a dream, that one day I'll be at Spec's and see W12 sitting on the shelves. And two guys walk by and say "Hey man you getting one?" and he responds "Nah dude, I got one a couple weeks ago, I'm good".

I've heard mixed reviews but $40 to $50 bucks it's probably worth the pick up.

We tried them all at Bardstown straight from the barrel last year. The barrels we tried were in the 4.5 year range and everything being released is 6. The wheater and the 95/5 rye were excellent. The high rye bourbon was decent. If the proof down doesn't affect them too much, they're going to be really damn good at that $50ish price point.
