Congrats on the WLW. I won a Smooth Ambler Old Scout 9 Year LE in a raffle. Posted it for trade not too long ago. Trying to get my first ORVW, EC21, EC23, or a few others.

ORVW 10 this year is awesome. I've had it three times, and each time has been a great pour.
WLW is the one whale I want the most. Great pick up at the raffle if so and congrats to third coast. Had some last weekend in New Orleans and I'm close to wanting to pay secondary for it... just got to keep the phone away while drinking so i don't pull the trigger!

I'm wondering if that shop owner doesn't just like showing them off as much as he wants money. Then again, there is probably some fool out there that doesn't do a lot of research that may just blow his load and buy one. If they really wanted the money they would just sell them secondary.
Also, what sites do you guys generally look at to see secondary prices? I was just curious on current prices on a few and figured some people here had a go-to.
Dude was a straight up gypsy, was willing to "discuss" the price if I was really interested

Even with the ridiculous prices, it would be fun to find a shop that even gets these kinds of bottles in the door.
Great post Jock! The Weller 12 at $130 might be the most ridiculously priced bottle up there. Would love to see what he wants for that EC23 also ...

There's quite a few FB groups were bourbon is traded, sold and raffled.

That's assuming he got them through a wholesaler/distributor. I am pretty sure there have been instances where some unscrupulous liquor stores have had bottles up for sale from a BTAC release that haven't even made it to the Texas distributors, usually for well above secondary. That leads me to believe they themselves are buying these bottles on the secondary market and still trying to mark them up.third coast.. said:

Distilleries/producers raising their prices to get a bigger part of the surplus value chain? Not enough demand at those secondary prices eventually drives down the retail price back to reason?

Don't these retailers have agreements with the distributors/producers that they have to sell at retail price?

They do. They sell it to themselves for cash, and then list it for sale as a private seller. I guarantee if you were to ask an employee at those stores about those bottles, or to look up the price in the computer they'll try, and then get confused, and then tell you "it's not in the system, I'll have to get the manager/owner." Happens all the time.
Turned 37 today, wife did a great job making it special. Cherry on top was WLW, hands down best bourbon I've ever had

Picked up a Whistlepig Straight Rye 10 Year today. Anyone tried it yet?
That suggested retail is what aught to get them in trouble with BT and the distributors. It wont but it should.
