But.theyre still distilling? I know they move off 249 years ago, but never went to the new tasting room and I thought they moved the distillery to Tomball.

My firstborn daughter just turned 1 today! Been waiting for a special occasion to crack this one!

Review: The proof is a little low but it has a remarkable flavor profile. I was worried it'd taste too "fruity" but it actually has some good smoke and spice to it!

TABC would like to hear about that I'm sure, especially the fake TABC stickers on the bottles from their distributor. I guess they could buy one bottle of Pappy and fill it up with old Grandad in the back. I think some folks would figure that out.

ill bet a store could get away with it for a long time, especially if fill they bottle with something that is going to have a similar profile. I would not be shocked if that was going on at all.

It's common enough in the wine world that Netflix did a movie about it. Wouldn't surprise me at all to find out about restaurants doing same/similar things.

Heck, Netflix also has similar specials about maple syrup and olive oil… I'd bet 70% of us have had at least one restaurant/bar pour of bourbon that was counterfeit.

I agree. I wont order a good pour at a bar unless i see them open the bottle, or i know they have another full bottle. Im quite sure I have had some fake stuff back when i was in CA. It's just too easy to do and unless someone narcs how are you going to catch them.

For rare pours who either has enough experience drinking it or is trained enough to really tell. im sure there are folks who can but its probably few and far between. Human memory/senses are just too fallible and easily manipulated. I've had a bottle of WLW once. I think i remember what it tastes like but im sure i would never be able to pick it out in a blind taste test.

Trick question, because most of the must buy bottles can and are marked up to insane prices at some stores. You'd have to have some working knowledge of the secondary market to help make those determinations

Those don't exist. If you're that unconcerned about price, I'll save you the time hunting and you can come by my house. Bring lots of cash.

but thats the thing why are you buying it? to flip, to show off,for a special occasion or just to drink? any of those responses changes the proposition.

Going off of just to drink or to have my answer is none. There is nothing that i would pay a crazy price for regardless. If im drinking it im always going to fall back to is this a better value or something i am going to enjoy a lot more than something i can easily grab for 50 bucks (1920 or something similar) and the answers is probably going to be no. For the to collect part i think you are better suited buying stuff to learn what you like and then collect based on that because it will be all that much better when you do open it. If you are buying it as an investment then learn secondary prices and go off that.

I'll be the first to say that most people don't actually know what they like and instead want the things that other people glamorize. I wish that more beginners would take time to explore and learn, but with the way that hunting and collecting is plastered all over social media, it's impossible to prevent someone from going down that path quickly.

That's the issue. How do you know you like OWA or ECBP? You've never had them if you're new to the bourbon scene.
AgDev01

you go to a bar, order it, and base your decision on what every they refilled the original bottle with

Is was a lot easier 10 years ago and all of this stuff was pretty readily available on the shelf at MSRP. THese days i would probably try things based on profiles and go from there. Do you like wheated, high rye? figure that out and then go for there.
Tom Cardy
How long do you want to ignore this user?

I'm just suggesting that someone try wheated bourbon before hunting OWA and overpaying for it, or missing out on other wheated options that are a better value.

MM 46 cask strength or any of the wood finishing series. If you can find BRT01 or 02 both are really good.

Alrighty, I have no shame. I'm curious as hell.

Has anyone actually purchased those Buffalo Trace Corazon tequila bottles that are aged in Eagle Rare, GTS, Blanton's barrels etc?

All gimmick and hype? Or actually good?

Thanks.

Texags Barrel Pick #3 #4 - Wilderness Trail

I teased it in the new riff post a few weeks back (sorry, didn't mean to derail that one on my way out the door), but I'll be heading to Wilderness Trail at the end of March to pick a barrel of Wilderness Trail. I'll start a new thread shortly and post details there, but the gist is, I'll be picking a barrel of Wilderness Trail cask strength wheated bourbon.

I know there have been several other barrels posted lately, so hopefully everyone isn't tired of them already and we can come up with another great pour.

Sounds great!

We really go the barrels coming in lately
