I'd be the last person in a position to cast aspersions around here, but posting this and then disappearing for two days is pretty dirty pool. Little bit sad, I am.

Legacy - if you decide to part with your Pappy 23 I'll pay your asking price. Wifey has been trying to find some as a surprise for me but has been lamenting to our friends that she has fallen short. Would be willing to have friends "help her" find it.

I'll keep that in mind but as a poor college student, I am waiting till spring to get top value. Sorry bud. In a perfect world, I'd pour you a glass from my tap of it..

And best bang for buck is eagle rare.

Waiting till the spring won't get you any better price. In fact, sometimes it's easier to ind in the spring that directly following the new year release in the spring.

Of course, you could have a friend that owns a distribution company and gets you as many bottles as needed For the year on the first issuance

The specs in Waco typically has one of the best off season selections, especially in relatio to PvW 23. The last 2 times we've run out, they had in o shelf in mid April-July

For the poster asking about Jefferson, I have a friend who's father is an exec for the corporation that owns Jefferson. The "Presidential Select" 17 year old is absolutely fantastic.

It was also an accident, they forgot about an entire room of stuff that was supposed to age for 10 years, and when they realized their oversight 7 years late, they found a fantastic bourbon. So they slapped the "presidential" label on it, and jacked up the price.

Just a little extra info for you. Really is great stuff though.

Ive never been a bourbon drinking due mostly to the fact I've never had anything I've tasted worth drinking. Well I went to specs to pick up some stocking stuffers and saw they had a few bottles of Garrison Bros. so I bought a bottle. Popped it as soon as I got home, poor a glass and let it sit for about ten minutes. I sipped it straight and it has a really strong pepper presences up front with a berry flavor to follow. Too strong for me to drink straight so I cut it with mineral water. About half and half. I have to say this is some good stuff. Much better than crown or makers. Think I might be hooked.

I move that Showtime and Legacy both be banned from the Bourbon thread.

Perhaps they'll do the job themselves and stop their quibbling, so we can get back to talking about sweet delicious bourbon.

Seriously, the best thing you two can do, is stop this thing right now, not one more post, not even to say you'll stop, just nothing, no more, done, it's over, move on with your lives, can you do that? I hope you both can.

Still have the 23.

Got 2 more bottles of 15 and 20 from clients for Xmas.

Hopefully showtime won't want to get in a pissy match with me over selling them.

The Mrs. got me a bottle of PVW 23, it is pretty fantastic. I had asked for the 15, and told her not to shell out $ for the 23, but she didn't listen. It was a welcome surprise, though!

Not bourbon related, but a couple of other interesting things I picked up this Christmas are a bottle of Penderyn Welsh single malt whisky (tastes like a highland), and Armorik French single malt (very peaty and smoky, like an Islay). I recommend both if you are looking for something different. I like pouring guests something good they haven't had before, it always starts a good whisky conversation.

She got you the 23 because it's about 100x easier to find than the 15 due to the pricing out a large portio of the market that the $51.50 15 year wont.

15 goes 1st
20 follows and
23 is easiest (but tastiest)

Holy cow. Just saw all the staff edits. Wanted to apologize to everyone for letting things get out of hand (and escalating them). And to Legacy as well. I may disagree, but I oughtn't be disrespectful. Let's get back to discussing beautiful amber corn nectar. Merry Christmas, All.

I move between Beam and Evan (sweeter) for daily since it can be had for $20 1.75L

I like and have had most of the $40-$50, and use tonstock mostly knob, but i cant justify double the price. Will pay to try a new one...looking for the Pappy 15 or 20.

Got 2 Thomas Handy Ryes today. Interested in trying it out. Found a bottle of
Glenrothes 1998 and 1994 on the shelf too. Picked it up with a Mac 18 for the MNC game. Roll tide!

That Thomas Handy/Sazarac Rye is the best whiskey I have ever tasted. I prefer it over any scotch or bourbon made.

I am thinking about trying some of the other top-shelf rye whiskeys, but at ~$70 a pop, I don't want to take a chance.

Any other big Rye fans out there that have some suggestions?

Spec's carries a Willett Family Reserve rye bottled at around 110 proof. It may be a Spec's exclusive, as that is what the spirits director in Dallas intimated, and i've never seen it elsewhere. It is amazing.

Got a case of the Handy Sazerac.

Let me know if you'd like a bottle. If you are in the BCS or Houston area we can meet or have a poker night/bourbon/scotch tasting too.

Got the Willett Sibgle from specs yesterday. Interested in trying it out, but it will have to a few weeks at least.

Made the so a manhattan with the THH last night and she claimed it was the best she has had

From Dan Garrison:

quote:
For years now, I have wanted to start selling Garrison Brothers Texas Straight Bourbon Whiskey in my old stomping ground, Houston. I grew up there. Played football at Spring Branch Junior High. Learned what little I know about pretty girls there and they have the prettiest.

So, I am pleased to announce that on Texas Independence Day (March 2, 2012), 1,000 cases of the finest Garrison Brothers Tex...as Straight Bourbon Whiskey we know how to make will be available at fine liquor stores, bars, restaurants and hotels throughout Houston.

If you have a friend who owns a liquor store or pours drinks behind a bar, we'd like to talk to them. They can place pre-orders from our distributor, Republic National, right now by calling 832.782.1300.

I'd get them to call soon, because with just 1,000 cases available, I have a feeling it will go fast. Houstonians know a thing or two about fine straight bourbon whiskey.

Oh, yeah!

Do you like garrison bros? I've never been impressed. It always came across as them marketing the texas roots (a low shelf premium) at a high premium price.

I do like it. Has a bit of a strong back to it, but the first mouthing of really kicks out the sweetness followed by the char in the barrel. It seems so different than anything else.
