Thank you Mr. Lee on the contributions to my liver. You were a bourbon genius, good sir. RIP.

seems like they are drinking PVW in every other episode of justified. Is that just tv or is it really that easy to find in kentucky?

Sorry to break it to you bud, but it's just the show.

It's at least as hard to find in Kentucky as it is in Texas, probably even harder because everyone in Kentucky knows what it is, and knows to buy it on site.

I spent the last 3 years in Lexington, and there were a couple of bars/restaurants that had it in their lineup reliably, but they definitely charged for it ($35-40 for 15, up on $70 for 23). Never once saw any on a store shelf.

What you do see a lot more of is people from up north on bourbon trail tours who think they're going to load up a half-dozen cases of Pappy straight from the source and take it home, pleading with liquor store employees/managers to "hook them up", like there's a secret stash in the back that they hide from out-of-staters or something.

The Bourbon Bar at my wedding:

Barely seen by my arm are the Pappy's: Old Rip Van Winkle 10/107, Van Winkle 12yr and Pappy Van Winkle 15 year. Plus the entire Buffalo Trace Antique Collection, some '93 and'94 Evan Willams.

All of these were purchased ~10yrs ago before Bourbon exploded in popularity and they were relatively cheap as compared to now. I figure I only get married once and man, what a fun night.

Allegedly, it'll be $49.99 for 8-9 year old stuff, releasing in August.

Picked up a bottle of Jefferson Presidential Reserve 21 year on Saturday. Amazing bourbon. Hard to tell a difference between Pappy 20.

It's not as diverse as Pappy, but extremely smooth and tasty.

I prefer the pappy over the Jefferson's 21. I didn't think the Jefferson 21 was worth the price(around $130)

^^^^ "Hard to tell the difference between Pappy 20". Have you ever tried Pappy 20? Those are two completely different bourbons. To each is own I guess. If you think that, I would buy up every bottle on the shelf of the JPS 21 for $120 and consider it a great deal because you won't find Pappy 20 in those quantities for that price.

On a side note, does anyone have a guess as to where the juice was sourced for JPS 21? I would think possibly Heaven Hill.

I would guess Heaven Hill, otherwise I don't think it would remain such a mystery. Unlike the 17/18 being SW. Never had the 21, but buy alot of tthe 17/18 I come across.

Anybody else had the 21 yet? I found a store today with 5 bottles but he wanted $135 for them. Not sure I want to drop that much coin if I don't have some more background on it? Thanks.

I have a bottle of the JPS 21 I got because I loved the 18. It is not as smooth as the 18 in my opinion. Not a bad bourbon, but I have buyers remorse - should have tasted at a bar first. Lesson learned.

Whenever I get buyers remorse after buying a bottle of expensive whiskey, I pour myself a drink. Its one of those problems that resolves itself.

Drank some JPR last night. Very different from Pappy. Very smooth and oaky. Pappy is more complex and mellow.

Elmer T Lee is some great Boubon!

I'm a fan of just about whatever that distillery puts out though.

Solid lineup!

Sub Rock Hill Farms for the Blantons, and you just rattled off my go-to list.

Tried Eagle Rare a few months back; very good. Anyone have a review on Four Roses Single Barrel and Rowan's Creek?
Hemingway

Four Roses Single Barrel is my overall favorite bourbon. It is hotter than a Blanton's, and higher proof, but a little water eases it and you get a great flavor. There is almost some fruit at the front that is hard to explain. My wife, not a bourbon drinker, actually loves manhattans made with it.
