I am taking my Blantons, STFB, Stagg, Cigar Blend, EHT Single Barrel, and Four Rose Texags pick all with me to Christmas so I can share with family. It's also a great way to clear out some bottles from the collection.

Just curious what a reasonable price would be for an ER 17 and O.F.C. 1994 on the shelf.

ER17 - $1,000+
OFC - $10,000+

for a recent ER 17 your probably looking around 1k or so. The problem with ER 17 is that is is 90 proof. I would be a hard ask for me to buy it over MSRP.

So if you can buy O.F.C. for $3,300, do you do it and take the risk of flipping it?

I might need to get Rick's bourbon expert in to make sure it's authentic.

ER 17 moved to 101 proof in 2018, I believe.

Where do you find this information? And where would you even list this to be able to sell? Glad you killed any thoughts of me wasting my time.

I'm a proof head but ER17 is one of the best pours I've had

I checked some national groups on FB for actual sales.

I just cracked my first MTBSR the other day. I've had many samples but never owned one. Love both bottles and it's probably not even fair of me to say I like the BSR more because it's so close.

I'd do Sazarac. You'll probably get recommendations for Rittenhouse too, but I couldn't stand it and had to use it as a mixer to get rid of it

Agreed. This is the best rye for the money out there

Heading into Tyler for meetings with some clients. Any spots to grab a bottle anyone would suggest? A place that maybe carries their own store picks frequently? Be fun to gift and open something from one of their own local stores together.

Just getting into rye, I'd go a little different than most already mentioned and go for a "barely legal" rye, like Michter's or Pursuit United. Both lean more into the flavors of bourbon you are likely already used to but dipping your toes into the rye world. Ryes also tend to take finishing a bit better than bourbon, so you can start there as well, since there are no shortage of options in that space.

For a full on 95/5 or 100% rye, it really depends on what you are looking for in a rye. Rye can go from dill/herb, to mint, to dark and fruity. I personally don't like dill rye at all, but love a fruity profile, so I usually don't like Willet Rye (4yr anyway), but really enjoy Still Austin Rye.

Of some of those already mentioned; Rittenhouse I only use for cocktails. Sazerac, I really only use for cocktails. Wilderness trail is a good option, I've had some that are minty/chocolatey and so good, but also passed on some that were more herbal. I love Rare Breed Bourbon, but I'm not the biggest fan of Rare Breed Rye, for reasons already mentioned. So many options, just pick one and jump in.

I absolutely hated it.

And it was a shock because I loved their black label standard offering. I was thinking that Wilderness Trail was another can't miss distillery for me.

Weird I know.

I will probably pick up a couple of bottles suggested here and figure out what I like. Thanks for the advice.

Buellit (may not be spelled correctly) a good starter.

Another barely legal rye, but with a bit more proof and a good option. Sometimes hard to find though unfortunately, but seen more recently so hopefully that corner is turned.
