I got to do a tour here as part of our barrel pick a couple years ago. Amazing pick and staff experience, treated us like VIPs.

But it was the tour that kind of "exposed" why their juice is so hard to drink and harsh. Barrels are just left outside, scorching in the sun. They don't have enough room to house all their barrels. When we got to the distillery portion, it wasn't as "controlled" as you might see in another distillery. It was open air at that time and the uncovered tanks could receive some FOD from the wind and whatever is in the air. I asked about that and they said "we pride ourselves on our whiskey tasting like Texas". After talking to the guide it seems like they are happy being a 2 year old whiskey type of distillery at the moment.

The craziest thing is that we had their "white dog mash" and it was incredible, buttery popcorn. Who knows what could be with another distillery process…

I've had a couple of really good pours from their single barrel stuff, but a lot of it has not been as good. The aged gin is pretty solid

It's just incredibly harsh and super oaky imo. I got to go there over the summer for a bachelor trip, and loved the BBQ, but threw pack the sample pours we got because they were so harsh.

I've become a big fan of Jack over the last few years. I dismissed them for a long time until i randomly grabbed a bottle of the regular single barrel on a whim. After having that i pretty much tried every bottle they produced. Both the Rye and regulars SBBP's are awesome and I personally love the triple mash as well.

I think I've only seen it on the shelf one time. Bought it and think it's outstanding. Are y'all seeing it readily available on the shelf?

Rare Breed should be pretty ubiquitous. I just spotted a Total Wine store pick at my local store im planning on picking up.

I think I remember your name in the texags barrel pick list showing Sugar Land as your location (I could be wrong), but if so, the Total Wine in Sugar Land usually has the WT Rare Breed.

Rare breed is great, but I've tried 2 bottles of the new batch and it's not good. Both had a weird almost iodine tasting finish. Different laser codes on the bottles. Hopefully I just got unlucky on both bottles.

Yes. Brighter label.

No iodine in the bottle I had recently. I actually thought it was a smidge sweeter than the older RB bottles.

Will see if some other reviews come out. Everyones palate is diff, but iodine would be a unique (not in a good way) profile note.

A co-workers wife has a bottle of M10 Single Barrel (not sure on the year, mostly likely from 2018-2020), and she wants to sell it to me (she got it for free). They don't expect $3-400 dollars, but I also don't want to shaft them on an offer. What would y'all consider a reasonable offer for that bottle?

$200 will be above the retail price but below secondary. If it's a friend and you're at all concerned about optics, I'd say $225 or $250 is still fair to everyone involved.
