Best beer I had in my trip down to the Keys last week was actually a Tampa beer. Reed Donkey pale ale.

Not even joking when I say it's maybe my favorite beer now. Maybe it was the vacation talking but it was a perfect session ale.

Had lunch at Societe after hitting the farmers market downtown. Pupil, Roustabout, and Wildcard for the first round.

Got some Chachos tacos for myself and some shrimp hargow from a nearby dim sum place for my wife.

A couple of Roustabouts and a small Butcher for round two. Found out that Roustabout is going away and will only be seasonal going forward, so I had to grab their last case on the way out.

Last day in the land of hazy beer and beach pizza. No groceries left in the house so we walked across the street to a restaurant on the harbor. Wifey was doing wine but I had a Lawsons Sip with my peel and eat shrimp. Pic is my dessert, Lunch from Maine Beer Company.

Stopped at Sapwood Cellars in Columbia MD today. This was definitely bucket list stop for me. This brewery was opened by a couple of beer bloggers and authors. If you are a home brewer you might know their names. Scott Janish and Mike Tonsmeire aka The Mad Fermentationist. I had a half pour of their West Coast Kolsch to start then a half pour of their Festbier with my quesadilla off of the taco truck. Finished with a full pour of Cheater Hop IPA. All my beers were delicious. Wifey had a mixed fermentation sour called Experimental Phase that was amazing. Sorry. No pic of hers or my Festbier.

Staying tonight in downtown Knoxville. Got here early enough to walk around a bit. Found ourselves at Woodruff Brewery which is inside the Downtown Grill and Brewery. All the beers were solid, nothing outstanding or sub par. All English style save the blonde and Altbier. I started with a full pour of IPA then got a flight of 7 4oz pours for only $10.50. If you can see the beer names on the card, the beer in the IPA slot is a pale ale and also my least favorite.

Was on the east side of El Paso for a night and swung into Undisputed Craft House. What a phenomenal tap list and bottle list, ESPECIALLY for El Paso. This dude curated some really nice selections from across the state.

And though I wasn't planning on bringing anything home (as I was in El Paso), I had to find some space in my luggage because he had the Bluey (Bandit) beer from Turning Point.

Got a question for the experts. Family took a trip to Boston recently and we all really enjoyed the Sam Adams Wicked Hazy Juiced IPA. Also enjoyed the whirlpool hazy pale ale from Night Shift. Came back to Houston and set out to find something similar since those beers aren't readily available here. Tried the Voodoo Ranger Juice Force IPA from New Belgium and it didn't disappoint.

Any recs you guys have in that same family/style would be greatly appreciated. TIA.

It's shocking that you missed the haze craze in Houston. You've certainly got a brewery near you that does a good hazy. Those that you listed are more sweet and mellow than some, so you might go Hazy Pale like St Arnold's Harmony. St Arnold's Juicy IPA is better IMO, but a little more poppy hops. Great Heights Fruity Pellets may be another to try.

But for real, any of the hazy flagships at the local breweries would probably be a good bet.

A lot of it is being stubborn on my part. Never really gave IPA's much of a chance. If I bought a St. Arnold beer it would probably be a lawnmower. I will give some of those a try for sure. Thanks for the recs!

Fruity Pellets absolutely rocks. My other two favorite Houston hazies are Houston Haze from Spindletap and Medina Sod from Equal Parts.

Across the street from Great Heights is Walking Stick Brewing. They have a really good hazy called Longs Peach.

Oh for sure. Spindletap and Equal Parts have some of my favorites. And Ghost in the Machine is easy to find in the city. But those might be a little too big and hoppy compared to Wicked Hazy (which conversely, I didn't love...)

Jackson MS tonight. Staying downtown. Went to Fertile Ground Beer Company. I had a limited release amber Saison called Not French Anymore which was great. Wifey went with a double west coast IPA called Droid Rage which was fairly solid. It's a really cool venue in a nice area. Back in the Sliver tomorrow.

Visited 37 breweries, stopped in or drove through 19 states in 14 weeks and damn it feels good to be back under these East Texas pine trees. Got home yesterday afternoon about 2:00. I was able to liberate about 3 cases of beer plus several bottles from the Yankees. This one is Heat Wave from Tree House and is damned good.

ETA: Added Night and Day from Modestman. Also very good.

Farmers daughter Belgian Style Saison from The Alchemist. It's pretty good but could almost pass for a Kolsch or a Blonde. The Saison yeast flavors are very subtle.

Grillling before and after the trip to Kyle.

One of the few times I would say I prefer Iowa to Colorado.
