Yea I love their BBA stuff.

Working through my stash this evening.

Was talking to the owner of Outrider Brewery on Friday. I mentioned that I lived in Boulder growing up. He told me that he worked at Avery for a few years. He had some really good stories.

Wifey was taking an art lesson in Exeter today. There was a bike trail close so I went along. She dropped me off at the trail head and it was a mile of rocky uphill before I said "no mas"… too old/ fat. Checked my phone to see who was open Sawbelly Brewing was a 20 minute ride away. Neither of the beers were particularly good but the wings and pickled eggs were spot on.

I should really read the abv before drinking two Tree House beers on a Monday afternoon before 4 o'clock.

ETA: Oh.... and they both looked like this

We're at Saint Arnold celebrating the first day of school and Brock Wagner stopped to ask me about my Flying Chanclas hat. I think that means I'm famous.

Wifey and I have embarked on a 3 day beercation to celebrate our 39th anniversary. I therefore will be spamming the thread so hold on to your butts. First up is Almost There IPA from Bright Side Brewing in Lebanon NH. It's an old school West Coast style with bright citrus and a little caramel. Went great with my meatball grinder.

Had a work trip in Washington and am driving back down to Southern Oregon today. Stopped off at a place outside of Salem I've been wanting to try for a while…
Top Wire Beer Garden located literally in the middle of Crosby Hop Farm. Pretty cool to be able to see the hops and hang out and drink some great beers. I definitely will be back for a full tour.

Spending the night at Von Trapp Family Lodge and Brewery. Dinner tonight is at the Bier Hall at the brewery itself. We got two 6 oz pours each with our room. I got the Smoked Helles and Oktoberfest Wifey is beered out so she saved her two for tomorrow. The smoked Helles is a collab with Live Oak Brewery in Austin and is damned delicious. The Oktoberfest was solid as well. On a side note. It's hazy AF because of smoke from Canadian wildfires. Bottom picture is the view from our balcony.

I loved the few beers of theirs that I got to try recently. Would absolutely be my go to if I lived up that ways in their network.

Damn that sucks. I remember as an early teen we had a soft copper pipe split under the slab of my parents bathroom. My dad knew a guy that could fix it but my brother and I had to tunnel 10 feet under the slab to get him access. Filling the hole was actually worse than digging it. We had to pack it back under the concrete as best we could. Anyone else ever tried packing sugar sand?

First off Stowe Vermont is a great place for a vacation. If you are in to mountain biking, kayaking, trout fishing, snow skiing, beer drinking… it's all here.

Spent the morning sightseeing. Looked at some covered bridges and drove around the mountains with the top down on the jeep. Stopped in to Nocturnal Brewery for lunch. Had the best brisket I've ever had outside of Texas. I had The Hayes hazy ipa, Wifey went with a fruited sour called Late Night Luau (They don't brew at this venue yet). Did some shopping in town and finally came across some Trillium (More on that later). Stopped at Idletyme Brewing and got a flight. Standouts were the Hefe Weizen and the New Zealand Pilsner. All beers were good except the IPA which was ok. A little more shopping and then back to von Trapp Brewery for the two pours they owed us from yesterday. Wifey got wine so I used the beer tickets. I had their West Coast Pilz and their Stowe Style Kellerbier. Both very good.

Hill Farmstead Brewery. I had an Amarillo single hop IPA with my brisket sandwich. Wifey had their Everett Porter with her burger. Went from some really good brisket yesterday to a real downer today. Wifey and I split an Edward Pale Ale for dessert.

Back from our trip to Vermont. I may have over bought. I was planning on giving my liver a a few days break but looks like I need to get drinking.

7 breweries in 3 days. Spam off.

ETA: in light of our recent discussion about Trillium vs Tree House I decided that a showdown was in order. There will be a blind tasting this week…sorry you can't be here. All these beers are on RateBeers top 50 of IINEIPAs The Alchemist Heady Topper is #1, Tree House Haze is #17, Hill Farmstead Society and Solitude #4 is # 19 and Trilliums Upper Case is #24. All these beers are less than two weeks old. Wish me luck.

Killer haul. Very jealous of the Hill Farmstead.

I'm curious if you don't like Lawson's, since you didn't seem to hit them up despite being very close.

I like Lawsons a lot. I was doing hazys. Lawson's Sip isn't one or I don't consider it one. I thought about adding in Bissell Brothers The Substance but I know it cannot hang with anything I've had from Tree House. All my opinion as you know. I would really like to add in beers from Modestman, Deciduous and Spyglass but stuck to more well known breweries that people on here might be familiar with. I have not had that particular Trillium or that Hill Farmstead... I just picked the best I had in the beer fridge according to the list I linked.

I just realized you are asking why we didn't go to Lawson's.... reading fail. I initially read it in regards to my 4 beer challenge. Lawson's would have been a 40-50 mile detour and the only time it would have made sense would have been on the way up. It just didn't fit our schedule.

Went to lunch at Stoneface Brewing in Newington today. They had a 3.5% Dark Mild on nitro which was glorious and went well with my Fried Chicken sandwich. Wifey had a west coast Double IPA called Beer To Drink While Listening To Steely Dan's 1972 Hit "Do It Again" with her Reuben. For dessert I had the west coast IPA that wifey had and she had a NEIPA called Neon Slick. All the beers were good. Picked up a couple Bottles and a 4pk of that long named west coast to take back to TX for Friday beer shares (or drinking alone).

Did my blind tasting of hazy double NEIPAs today. I was able to correctly pick out Heady Topper and Haze based on looks alone. I ate a plain tortilla chip between beers to clean my palate. Here is how I rank them. Least favorite was Heady Topper. I found it to be overly bitter and a little thin for a NEIPA. I know it's the original but it had not much of the "Juiciness " I have come to expect in this style. It's not that much different than a west coast style. Third place was Society & Solitude #4. It just really wasn't that juicy but did have very low bitterness and decent mouthfeel. Second place was Upper Case from Trillium. It was very juicy, mostly citrus, and had slight bitterness reminiscent of orange peel. It had very good mouthfeel. Winner going away was Haze from Tree House. Big juice bomb with citrus but also tropical fruits: mango papaya. It is the haziest one of the bunch and also had the biggest mouthfeel. To be honest, I have some Tree House beers in my beer fridge that I like better than haze but I was basing my challenge on what was on RateBeers top 50 NEIPAS and what I had on that list.

My ranking: L to R, 4321

Wifeys ranking 4321

Could not waste them so now I'm going to take a nap.
Cheers
