Didn't really know where or want to post this anywhere else. So forgive me this post that's very distantly tangentially beer thread related.

Back to the Eagle Scout discussion from last month. The Boy Scouts sent me an email today reminding me that it is the anniversary of me passing my Eagle Scout board of review on 2/21/1994.

Along with being a special event for me, I am reminded that my court of honor was the last time I saw my grandmother before she passed away (Eff cancer).

Cheers to my Mamaw, my fellow Eagle Scouts in this thread (Eagle Scout sons of beer threaders too), and to all of you awesome guys on beer thread.

Well now that I've finished typing this up and adding the pictures it's not 2/21 any more. Lol. Oh well.

Thank you all for this great community we have.

I'm also one. 5/21/98 from Troop 421 in Arlington. Sadly, I pulled my kids when it became "Scouts".

1993 checking in - Troop 101 in Dripping Springs. Just recently got back into scouting with my two boys. Not sure what to make of all that has happened with BSA in the last 30 years but we are going to give it a go. It definitely had a positive impact on me growing up.

While my uniform in the shadow box has Troop 328, I did my project and ~95% of my work towards Eagle with Troop 841 in Coppell. Summer of 1993 we moved from Coppell to East Texas, while I completed the leadership requirement time frame between Life and Eagle before I could sit for my BOR.

"Burt Macklin" From Turning Point. Really solid. Triple NEIPA. Rotolo's Pizza in Tyler always has an issue with beer clean glassware.

Edit: Squirtle Squad Brett saison from False Idol. I like it a lot also, but more glassware issues.

I'll have to check that place out the next time I'm in Tyler.

Any love for Sake on the beer thread?

Stopped by Sake One/ Momo Kawa in Forest Grove, Oregon during a work trip to Astoria. Pretty cool place. Especially on a Monday afternoon when you're the only one in the place and they want you to taste through the entire menu so you buy more than you should.

I love a good extra dry sake. Never done a tasting though. Just drink it at sushi restaurants.

I'm also a sucker for the thing where they put the glass inside a little box, then overfill the glass until the box is full as well. Always feels like I'm getting a deal. Especially if they also pour from one of those comically oversized bottles.

Neat. I enjoy sake but I don't have it often.

Love sake, but surely don't have a palate for it, as I just get the cheap stuff at sushi bars. Cool stuff!

Pilsners don't seem to get much love here but I like them. This one is Destihl's Normal Pils. It's a German style Pilsner which are typically pretty bitter comparatively and this one takes it a step above that.

I've never done a tasting either, but if you're ever in the area, this place was pretty cool.

Walked out with a ****load of bottles that I'm planning on drinking with the Shogun tv show starting tonight.

Sake is crazy to me because I feel like I can drink it so fast but it's typically higher in alcohol than wine. It was cool tasting them back to back to taste the different nuances and flavors but I was ****ing hammered afterwards.

Super Treat from Tree House. One of my favorite beers from them. Another one that has been languishing in the back of the fridge too long. Still delicious though.

That's really cool for Northgate. I went to their original location back in 2017 and it was fine. I've had a few things off the shelf at HEB more recently that I've really liked (sours and IPA).

The weird thing about that place though is that I've encountered more closed franchise locations than open ones. In fact, the couple of times I've tried visiting a location, they had already shut down. Hopefully this one sticks around.

Kinda wild that we're not only their own Texas location but the only one within a few states of any others… if I'm looking at the locations map right

Pretty decent size operation with multiple locations in multiple cities across the country iirc. There's one here in the springs but I haven't made it over there yet as it's way the hell out west by garden of the gods.

Looks like many of their locations are franchises. Doesnt get my hopes up for a long lasting location with top notch beer.

Seeing now that they brew their beers in one location and ship them to the franchises. Maybe? If so, some brews are well rated on BeerAdvocate, so holding out some hope.

Hop Rising Hazy from Squatter's Craft Beers. It's plenty juicy but hazy?

Edit: To be fair we checked the date on the keg and it's 2 years old.

Today's Friday share beers. The Cruzer Kolsch from Real Ale just won a Bronze in the Texas Craft Brewers Cup. The House Ale from Traquair is delicious. The brewery has a real interesting story. TLDR version is the brewery is in an old Scottish Estate from the 1700s. It was forgotten and piled with junk over a couple hundred years. It was rediscovered and the original brew house was put back into production in the late sixties early seventies. The bottle on the right is my homebrew stout.

Edit: Another showed up.

Lot of hazies are less hazy on draft than an the can, especially given time. 2 years?!? That bar should be ashamed, just saying.

Apparently it went on late last night. I was the first pull off the keg today and I talked to the owner (a friend of mine) about it when he arrived just after noon. He tasted it himself and went into the cooler to check. The date was really faded but between 3or4 publicans we determined it was 2/2/2022. He immediately pulled the keg off the tap and called the distributor to pick the keg up.

I was not tickled internally or externally by that "beer".

I, for one, see nothing wrong with that.
