I have had The Elder a few times. A friend used to have a buddy that traveled back and forth to California. Would love to try The Younger.

Figure out a way to make it happen. You can mix beer days and wine days up there. Lots of great restaurants and outdoor activities. It is a great part of the country.

I have made the 9 hour drive to hang there many times. I have never thought it wasn't worth the drive.

Jealous, i've been able to knock out most of my wish list beers over the past few years, but The Younger still eludes me. I shall prevail!

"Deux Rouges" from Yazoo Brewing: Flemish Red Ale aged in Merlot Barrels. I am a huge fan of Flemish Reds and I had high hopes for this one. So much so that I bought two of these back in May when I was in Nashville for the CBC. Rodenbach Grand Cru and Duchesse De Bourgogne are some of my favorite beers. This one is a big disappointment. Total lack of any head retention. Overly acetic and tannic. The first one I drank in late May-early June. This one I couldn't stomach and dumped it.

Anyone ever gone to the Wild West Brew Fest in Katy? Just wondering if it is worth the expense to travel down and get a hotel room.

Also with March Madness approaching I may change things up this year. I'm horrible at keeping tabs on who has sent and honestly my life is too chaotic for that *****

So… I'm thinking something like a $25 "buy in". Money is sent to me. Once everything is over I use that money to buy beer for the winner and send one single massive, badass box (or perhaps multiple boxes). Maybe even do half cash/half beer? I'd hate to do all cash and take the beer part out of the equation though. Feel free to offer up your thoughts or shame me for my dumbass idea.

I know they have been for a while now but so happy that Weldwerks is distributing. I remember stopping by their booth the first year they were at GABF & there was no one there. Haven't been back since but I can only imagine the line today. Was at my local beer bar here a couple weeks ago and there was a group doing a small bottle share of sorts with the bartender and shared a taste of a coconut medianoche which was damn good. /coolstory

I like the idea of a buy in. I never participate since I'm not a big trader/shipper and fear I'd wind up taking months to get a box out.

So I think a $25 buy in seems to be a solid option. Will obviously post more details later… but we generally get about 20 signups which is about $500 total. Maybe split $400 for 1st and $100 for 2nd. Shipping will eat into those costs a little bit, but it'll still be a lot of awesome beer. I'm also spending a week in Madison in June… so that will help round out a box.

Explain this to me like I am a fifth grader. I have done football pots before and won some. Never been a basketball fan so have never really paid attention to the "March Madness". I will probably join the pot for $25 just to enjoy the back and forth which I presume will occur here. Would be a free $25 for you guys anyway.

In previous years everyone would fill out a bracket and "buy in" with a box of beer. Losers send beer, winners (typically 1st and 2nd) receive beer.

This year looks like you'll be buying in with cash instead of beer and I'll take care of all the beer buying/shipping. I do need to get the trophy from the previous winner too to send.

I think you could even go higher than $25 if you wanted to. Most past boxes (including beer/shipping) are worth much more than that so it'd still be a cheaper entry fee. Your contest your rules, but doing it as a $ entry instead of beer might take some of the regionality/excitement out of it. It will make it easier to collect on though since there are still some stragglers from last year. I won't name names.

As the creator, 3 time winner, and current holder of the trophy I can get it back to you.
