Gahh, I know! I saw the Galaxy DDH Juicy Bits crowlers and Choco Taco (less my thing, but still curious), so I'm going to ask my friend who recently moved to Denver if he's free Saturday and if so compel him to drive us up there. Sunday might end up being a good day for that because it looks like rain in Denver. I'll definitely let you know if I head that way.

Agree. Most of the time, I just want a good, simple beer. Frustrating walking into a place like pinthouse and I can't even find a beer to drink bc they are too busy churning 17 different hazy ipas that they don't even have their mainstays on.

Electric Jellyfish is the mainstay of Pinthouse Lamar, and Training Bines will be for the upcoming Round Rock location. Both are pretty damn good, but often in summer I just need a good pils.

Have you tried St. Elmo? They make good, simple beers.

i'm up north, so haven't hit St. Elmo.

ABW is my "go to" and i drink the hell out of peacemaker.

though, I'm loving Celis as well right now.

You know what would help... Like actually watching the video and stuff. ABW is not opening a brewery in San Marcos, just starting distro there. Guess I just assumed they were already distributing there.

I don't even look at JK, WW or WW as putting out 'crazy beers'. They are trendy for sure (sours and NE ipas namely), but nothing I'd call 'crazy'.

DFH, he's put out some crazy beer over the years. Weird ingredients, styles, etc.

While fruited sours are def. a trend in the US, the foreign sours (flanders, lambic, berliner, gose, etc) have been around forever, but the US has just recently embraced them. Because of that, I don't think they are going away anytime soon.

Great thing about your situation is, if you just want a good simple beer, they are plentiful, inexpensive, and no line is required to buy one. Enjoy that.

A really good clean lager is one of the hardest beers to make. There is NOTHING to hide flaws. You start adding a bunch of hops or fruit or wine/bourbon barrel in to the mix, you're right, the base beer could be half ass, but final beer will get attention.

I agree that I think there is major room for growth in this area in Texas. I live in West Houston, just outside of the Beltway. Nearest brewery to me is probably Karbach. I'd love to hit some of the smaller breweries in the Heights, or around downtown but with kids, wife, work that just doesn't happen.

But if there was something more local that would absolutely be on the radar. Same thing if I lived in Sugar Land or clear lake or kingwood.

My sister lives in Parker,CO. Just about every Friday night they look at which food trucks are at which of their multiple local breweries, load up their kids and pick one for a few brews. Would love to be able to do that in a more suburban location.

Hey, that's my hood

Barnett and sons is 2 miles from my house.. great beer and food trucks. One food truck brings a huge outdoor pizza oven. Oven fired pizzas made to order for $10. We have elk mountain (GABF winner for their german hef) Fan Draught just opened, a brewpub/sports bar, (waiting on equipment to brew their own), but have 20 taps of really carefully curated CO beers. Then Hall brewing, which closed their taproom recently in order to open up in the lobby of a new proposed hotel, but it got nixed.. so they are still looking for a brewpub location to open again.

If/when Hall gets their location, that leaves 4 options; 2 tasting rooms with food trucks and 2 brewpubs. Parker is only about 20 square miles and 50k people. Every resident is within 2-3 miles of one.

We're roughly 20 miles from Denver CBD. Most people I talk to from Denver think Parker is out in the sticks hah.

Need to post more pics of muh beer. Free beer is always good but I forgot how great this is. Really good when grilling out and it's hot as balls out here.

Do they can or bottle that Hefe? Hefes, I feel, are crazy underrated and I love drinking them during the week when I don't want a 14% BA stout. Also seems like no one makes really great hefes. I love Big Bend and Live Oak but that's about it.

Yeah, it's ok. I actually like Frag Out more which is weird because I hate IPAs. Looking forward to what you think of that one.

Unless no label has stepped up their game recently their beer is avg at best imo.

No, tap room only. But now, it's at two places because the old brewer that left elk mountain took it with him and opened another brewery about 10 miles away, but it's also still at elk mountain. I love a good hef too, though I am a total sucker for its similar sibling the belgian tripel. (Well, belgian wit's similar sibling anyway). Such a basic, mainstay style and so full of flavor, yet so many breweries don't have it on the menu.

Speaking of, stopped by Barnett and Son today and had a few belgian triples

Denver has Prost brewing, exclusively German styles. Their hefe is spot on. Love their bocks as well.

No label might be kid friendly but it's still 25 minutes away. And their beer is decidedly average. I've been out there twice before. Once for some coworkers when we happened to be out in Katy around quitting time and once with my wife and dog when they were having a GSP rescue event.

If I was driving 20+ minutes I'd just drive into one of the Heights area breweries.

Hah, 25 minutes to drive from the west side of Houston to... the west side of Houston! Sad thing is, I believe it
