Solid beer for my first American Solera experience, have Raspbarrel left to open.
Raspbarrel is my favorite of the handful or so AS beers that I've tried. Still need to tick the Bluebarrel, which is supposed to be a winner.

Finally got to try this one last night. It didn't suck.
Probably my favorite beer last year. Incredible.
Agreed. It was definitely top 5 for me.

Don't think he left, but he sold Prairie last summer, maybe to focus more on Solera, which he started early 2016.

Building a Big Green Egg table and drinking white oak jai alai from a solo cup.

FYI wet grinding concrete is really messy.
Hey totally off topic, what do you call the tool that drills those screw holes at an angle? I'm thinking of getting one if they make one in the $30 range or so. What kind do you have?

It seems it makes doing something like that way easier than any other way. Thinking of making a small table, this would help.

Kreg Jig

https://www.amazon.com/Kreg-K4-Pocket-Hole-System/dp/B001DYFISG

Not what you'd use for fine woodworking, but for the average DIYer like me, it's great.

EDIT: Glossed over the price point. The one I posted was a bigger kit they sell. There are others that work that have fewer add-ons

So.. comparing that one to something like this, which is $40

Is the overall capability the same pretty much? One is just kind of 'mini'.

I def. need to get me one of those.

It's just a difference of clamping your wood inside the jig vs clamping the jig onto the wood. Drilling a lot of holes will be much easier and quicker with the one Scriffer posted.

There's really not anything thing the less expensive one can't do, it just may take a bit longer. In fact, the cheaper clamp on product might work better if you're looking to use it tight spaces or on existing projects for whatever reason.

That is the one I have. I recommend buying their clamp though, it makes the work much faster.

Yep, same principles.

Main irritating thing is the proprietary screws Kreg requires. They use a square head bit, so you're kinda stuck. Not too crippling though.

so i forgot about a French Quarter temptress that's been in the back of the garage refrigerator for probably close to 2 years now. Now I know what happens when you keep a milk stout too long and just for good measure there's a mole temptress from around the same time there also. ill probably give it to a friend next time someone needs a beer and blame them when half the bottle gushes out. hopefully the guilt leads them to making a real effort on drinking it despite the rancid di ck flavor. i guess i hope they dont die also

Yep, I actually have both. The little one is great for tight spaces.

The coffee if anything would be the issue... I mean... there isn't actual milk in your milk stout.

never had a problem with mine sitting. Now, in this instance the coffee would mellow, but that's a good thing for someone like me who hates coffee

That's why I asked, as the powdered lactose (or is it maltose) shouldn't be a problem.

TL;DR - North Carolina beer scene was awesome.

Just got back this morning from a long weekend in NC. The beer was great and that was without even making it to Asheville. Spent the most of the weekend in the Raleigh area for American Aquarium's Roadtrip to Raleigh. Awesome two-night concert with guests David Ramirez, Hayes Carll, Joe Pug and Will Hoge. The Lincoln Theatre will sell you as many PBR tallboys as you want and even make it easy to carry.

While in Raleigh we went to Haw River Farmhouse Ales and Bond Brothers Beer Co. Haw River had a very similar vibe to Jester King and sources everything for their beers from local farmers. Bond Brothers just opened last year and is making some nice IPAs and sours. Brought home a Dreamsicle variant of their stout that I'm very interested to check out. Also, every bottle shop we went to had a bar, something we need more of here.

Tripleberry Sorcery at Bond Brothers.

Made it to Charlotte on Sunday and enjoyed beers at Wooden Robot and Heist Brewing.

Final haul that made it back to Houston with us.

Crowlers make beer so much more accessible to haul back. Can't wait to make it back to NC and check out Asheville next.

same question.. I have square head bits, are there's like some proprietary size?

On second thought, do you have to use their screws? Does the bit create a normal countersink?

Man cascade beers must be becoming shelf turds in my area. My local store has all cascades on sale $7-$10 off. I picked up a kriek for $17, the only one at $10 off.
I think $17 is about where it should be.

They probably have 50-60 bottles of 7/8 different kinds. Maybe I'll see them in the bargain basket soon

Definitely don't have to use the 'Kreg' brand of screws, doesn't have to be square tip either.

Best kind imo are the ones with the flat/washer head but without the washer. It's also good if it's not threaded the whole length so that they can 'suck' in. Kreg screws meet the above description, just saying they aren't the only option.
