So.... 2.5 calories per 1 oz per 1%.
i guess until you get to very high FG, sugary stuff. His Black Tuesday example, 20%, 6oz is 500 cals. Factor of 4.2x per 1% per oz.

God I can't imagine what I consume at gabf. I estimate 80 samples, 1 oz, large majority 7% and up. That's 1400 cals by rule of thumb, probably more like 2000 with the high abv stuff, plus 500-1000 in junk food. All in 4 hours hah.

I don't know what all you're eating, but I'm almost going to guarantee you it is 2-3x that high.
I eat the stuff around my neck, which is mostly pretzels (not that many calories), but also (string) cheese, small bags of chips, etc.. I don't eat the food there. I'm pretty self sustainable with my necklace

I thought about making a cheeseburger, throwing it in a ziploc and tying that sob to my neck.

Hah there you go.

After doing first year with just pretzels, we quickly saw you can easily get lots of stuff in. So the next year we had string cheese, bags of chips, and odds and ends in ziploc bags (an old school single hole punch does the trick for just about anything). The only rule is, it has to be worn around the neck!

Saw that Yellow Rose was approved for 16oz bottles this week - I'm guessing that will be sold in four-packs? Sweet!

Any of you CA folks lucky enough to pick up a FW Rye Double DBA when it released?

What's the deal with this caring food around your neck on a string? Just a fun thing hat people do at gabf? Or is it a way to bring your own food in that follows the rules?

It will probably still be overpriced compared to other good IPAs. Hope I'm wrong.

Oh, and cans or GTFO.

thanks to those who responded about brash. most everyone going loves metal and beer, and everyone alive should appreciate arcade games. I'll keep the donut burger in mind if we end up choosing brash. at this point that's what I'm pushing.

saw alesmith available for the first time today at bunker hill heb. unfortunately speedway wasn't one of the bottles I saw, I still have never tried it. I grabbed horny devil or something along those lines and the grand cru. also of note, for some reason 32oz fills of abyss are only $9 and the 64 was either 16 or 18. way too cheap to pass up imo. also have 2 tap takeovers going on, one for the fat tire and friends beers and the other for whatever the brewery is that does the kentucky bourbon barrel series. I grabbed some fills of FTAF funk, sour apple, and wild. never was big on the kentucky bb beers. tried a sample of the old fashioned beer they have now and it was, let's say, less than good.

Anyone in Austin want the rest of my Waldo's Special Ale? This is sad to admit, but I got some fresh IPA's in the mail right after I bought the sixer and I just don't see myself getting to these bad boys in their fresh prime. I have four left and will BIF to the first person willing to come grab them. They're an amazing beer and know they were hard to find around town.

The rules say you can't bring outside food, UNLESS it's attached to you (or around your neck, can't remember specifically).

Drinking beer for 4 hours you gotta have food, and food lines can be long, and take you out of tasting for 20-30 min. So food around neck allows you to just eat on the fly, and not pay for it.

Not sure when or why pretzels started (to get the job done, they make sense), but people have definitely gotten creative over the years.

Hater alert.

The pretzel necklace is the beer festival equivalent of a fanny pack.

What a strange turn the beer thread has taken!

Lakewood Red Wine Barrel Till & Toil. Got a half growler at Lakewood Growler. Very cool little joint. This saison is excellent.

If you go to Brash I'd make sure they have the food truck before you go. One time I was there on a Saturday and there was no food.

Doing my own homebrew tasting at home tonight. On the left is our test batch of our Wit recipe, fermented with French Saison yeast. In the middle is my entry for Martin House's Riverside Shootout competition, a Belgian Rye IPA fermented with their house saison yeast. Last is my most recent quad. It still needs more time aging, but I had to sample it, and it's tasty.

It's good. I started the four pack about 8 days after it was canned. You feel the 9+% though, and after that chart Strat posted, I'll probably be buying less of it.

Just had a sick flight:

Community Ascension Coffee Porter (One of my favorite bang for buck beers out there, in quality and quantity) - if you're able to purchase this beer where you live, get it

Oskar Blues Hotbox Coffee Porter - was not as bittering as Ascension, pretty good

Uinta Stomping Grounds - fuller body, but more understated if that makes sense... I got a lot of caramel in it

Deep Ellum Bourbon Barrel Oak Cliff Coffee (brown ale) - Another one of my North Texas favorites, made even better with the barrel aging. I guess Dallas does brown ales/porters well.

Ended with Avery Tweak. There's too much to say about this one. Damn good, glad I got to try it in a flight form.

really digging alesmith horny devil. damn good belgian special pale. a lot more excited to try the bottle of grand cru I bought with this one. now that they're in tx, does anyone know about how speedway release/availability might work and when, especially in houston? I've always wanted to try it, and now that alesmith is here, its almost feeling like it could be realistic

That's awesome. Been trying to trade for one for weeks with no luck for a special occasion. Did you get yours through trade or buy it online? About to resort to buying. Been offering an arm and a leg and had one deal fall through but should be able to make it happen.

Very nice. Had it at the Meddlesome Moth earlier. Enjoyed it. Caramel came out as it warmed up.
