Also, speaking of Cantillon, I'm watching the Belgium episode of brew dogs right now. Best episode they've done and it's not even really that close.

Yeah, I really enjoyed them taking a break from the kinda stale brew-of-the-week format to highlight some Belgian breweries, especially since that's what I know the least about overall. It definitely made me want to add some of those places to the beer trips bucket list.

Overall the international episodes have been a nice addition, and James and Martin are funny/goofy enough to keep me watching this show.

Came away with the last bottle of parabola at whole foods montrose this morning, was pretty shocked to see the price just below $17. The few times I've gotten my hands on a FW box beer they've been around $25

Going to San Francisco end of June. Will be staying at the Hyatt Regency but wont have too much free time unfortunately. Any good bottle shops in close proximity and any known special releases around that time? Would like to find a supply of RRBC if possible.

I was out in FW last week looking for Parabola. Missed it everywhere, but the guy at CM came back with an 18 Anny and handed it to me. They had it for #21, which was pretty solid as well.

Found a bottle of Stone Crime in the back of my pantry that I don't even remember buying. It's the lucky ******* with peppers added. Good lord, it's undrinkable. I happened to have a bottle of the regular arrogant ******* around that I added to it to bring the spice down. The only reason it didn't go down the drain is that the $16 label is still stuck on it. Even then, I wonder if I should as I choke it down.

Took down a '14 Sucaba last Sunday while watching GofT... Still pretty tasty, but the carb was weird. No head whatsoever...

Missed on Parabola this year in Austin 'cause neckbeards are just outta control. My "beer guy" knows I teach and have a 20 minute lunch on a good day. So, I've got no chance of beating the jobless yet somehow rich neckbeards. He usually sets a bottle aside for me and I swing by when I get off work. Some guy walked in last week before my beer guy got in. He told someone from grocery that my beer guy was holding a case of Parabola for him (which was a lie). Guy from grocery walked back, grabbed the case, and he walked out with it... Beer. Serious business.

Diacetyl is the same chemical that makes butter taste like butter. There's a few different ways it gets into beer. Mutant yeast, bacteria, etc. It tastes like buttered popcorn or butterscotch, but not in a good malty way. In this beer, imagine you somehow have sour popcorn. But instead of eating it you drank it.

EDIT: jah nailed it more succinctly. You had this happen to you a few weeks back, didn't you?

Diacetyl can be present in any beer. Most yeast will produce diacetyl during fermentation. It takes proper fermentation temperatures and time to let the diacetyl be converted during fermentation. It has become more prevalent in sour beers recently because pediococus bacteria also produce a lot of diacetyl during bottle conditioning. Brettanomyces will "clean it up" but it takes a month or three at room temp to do its work.

Diacetyl tastes just like that artificial butter stuff you douse your popcorn in at the theater.

That I did... Same batch I'm assuming. I don't know much about brewing, but they've got to know this is an issue before they can this stuff right? Cause if Destihl knew this was an issue and canned it anyway, they may have lost my business...

Thanks. I think I'm good. I'll just shove all my clothes into a carryon and use a suitcase as a bottle holder.
