Hmmm...I had a pink Bomb! last week and I thought it had lost too much of the coffee and was too peppery. Picked up a blue today and will drink it in the next couple of days for comparison.

Black Xantus is so good. I still have no real idea what's up with Nectar Ales and Humboldt Brewing. My understanding is they're owned by some South Carolina company but everything is still made in Paso Robles.

IDGAF though. I buy the **** of black xantus when I see it. It's basically parabola with coffee. Haven't seen any around here in about a year.

Had Black Butte XXV on tap tonight. Damn fine beer. Wish I'd gotten bottles. Way better than Abyss.

I thought Nectar Ales were bought by Firestone. I know a FW rep, I'll ask him.

Haha good point! I meant orange.

I don't know...that last pink one was just a weird experience. That was probably the 6th Bomb! I drank since it showed up here and I had absolutely loved every other one. I don't know if my palate was just messed up or what but there was just to r much pepper in that last one.

Obligatory:

http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=70Ak4nW1Rg8

I wrote this last night but photobucket was slap dicking around so it's just now getting posted:

We left a foggy San Francisco this morning and got to RRBC at about 9:00am. We chatted with the people in line and talked to a few crackheads. I tried to score a rock but my wife reminded me that I have a heart condition and shouldn't smoke that stuff. So I had water and bagel instead while we waited. I'm guessing there were 100-150 in front of us. By the time the doors opened there were about twice that amount behind us.

The brewpub opened at 11:00am and we were the last people to get a table out of the first wave! Whew! We sat down and ordered Pliny the Younger and some mother ****ing Drew Bites! (Drew bites are stock photo since I forgot to take a pic...those aren't my creep old fingers)

It was delicious! It wasn't as sweet as last years batch and was maybe a touch more bitter...a damn fine beer if you ask me. Since I can't drink that much, we ordered a sampler tray and I had a taste of everything on tap (see the big board pic for what was there).

Much to my surprise, Beatification was still on tap and in the sampler, so I Beat some off all up in my mouth.

Supplication was good as always!

And here are some roadies (my wife discovered a love for Consecration so we got 9 to go, as well as 3 Supplication and 12 Elders):

As always, the party atmosphere was great and we met some cool people. It was weird to walk out sober, but it made the drive to bodega bay a lot easier.

With RRBC for lunch, some scenic views and hikes, and Bouchon for dinner, I'd call that just about a perfect day. The rest of the weekend can be seen on the food porn thread as it progresses!

How do you get those boxes back to Houston, because I'm planning to make a similar purchase when we're out there?

Thanks for the bonerrific post, BSD. Really looking forward to making my first trip to RRBC next weekend although I wish the timing would have been better so I could get in on PtY.

JH, that is indeed the sampler. I literally just had a taste of the Belgians and left them there so I could enjoy more of the sours and IPAs.

As far as getting that home, we brought beer out here as gifts for our winemaker friends so we are using a Wine Check. I'll also be buying a 12 bottle styrofoam wine shipper to check in on the plane (beauty of SW is that beer flies free)!

I forgot I had some Westy 12 out here so I'll be packing some overflow in the suitcase as well.

I believe younger runs thru the 20th so move up your flight a day or two! Regardless, you'll have a great time. With that many different beers, you'll be extremely happy. I've been there many times without a special beer release and I've always left pleased.

From a quick google search, it appears there's a fair to midland chance of seeing PtY here in the springs

No PtY, but it I did get together with some buddies for a Thursday tasting.

Beat was the best of the night for me. Cherry origins did not disappoint and Beauregard was very sour. Maybe it was because we had just drank a couple gueuzes, but, the blueberries were a lost on me.

Cantillon Classic vs 3F Oude Gueuze - winner 3F, not as remotely funky as the Cantillon but a bit more sour and balanced.

BA 4D tasted exactly like a caramel chew. Really awesome beer, but I don't think I could drink a whole bottle. The caramel flavor in the regular 4D was almost completely masked by hops. Very avg beer.

I've done Pliny in a shipper before but never sours. Do you wrap them in anything to keep them from bouncing around?

Picked up an Espresso Oak Aged Yeti and "Southern Tier Creme Brule" yesterday. Anyone had either of these beers?

Also saw on twitter that Prairie's Vanilla and Coffee Noirs got TABC clearance and should start shipping to Texas next week.

Jock, I don't know about Csprings, but Falling Rock has confirmed tappings on the 22nd and 23rd. I'm holding out for some up north, or Oskar Blues Homemade Liquids and Solids.

Dry Dock is also releasing Blight Barley wine on the 23rd, and Avery is releasing their tequila barrel sour. I'll be at Dry Dock.

I've never been to one at falling rock. They do tickets prior to opening and let you come back at your convenience. That seems to be the norm most places these days. It makes things much smoother.

I do recall some issues at cheeky monk last year where they didn't do tickets early and there was a hoard of people clamoring for a pour.

I've only been to tappings at Homemade Liquids and Solids, Choice City, and the Mayor
