I just popped in on the thread after being gone for a long time and at the top there was the tail of a discussion on Santa Fe's Chicken Killer barleywine. I had that a few weeks ago.

and thought it was pretty decent, especially for the price. The point I wanted to add in case it was not already mentioned (did not read everything) was that Santa Fe also produced a bourbon barrel version of Killer. I should have picked it up but never got back to the store. Oh, and the store was ALL craft beer and in El Paso. Primo's by UTEP. Good place to stop if you are in town. Further down the road is Hoppy Monk which is a terrific craft beer bar.

The good thing about EP though is that you can get a lot of the TX stuff and then cross to NM and get the NM stuff.

I had a growler of (512) Double IPA and another growler of Austin Beerworks Fire Eagle last night at blues on the green.

I had to get the double IPA due to it being a $16 pour at the growler room (vs $36 at the whip in).

I am also having a beer tasting in Austin on Saturday night. Should be interesting what beers we have (took some out of my "cellar" and into the fridge....no idea how the are).

Marooned - The bottle I got is the bourbon barrel aged Chicken Killer. Got it at Specs here in CS and they should have some still.

I'm leaving for Padre on Sunday... here's what I'm planning on loading into the car:

Day Beers: Hans Pils, Four Squared, Hops and Grain Zoe, SN Pale Ale

Night Beers: JK Das Wunderkind, JK Salt Lick/Censored X2, Dayman, JK Boxer's Revenge, (512) Double Pecan, Hoptimum, and a 6-er of Firestone Walker DBA.

It should be a pretty awesome beer week...

Was the bourbon Killer worth it 4s? I like the regular enough to go back and try the Ethel.

Marooned - I haven't opened it yet. Will probably drink it tonight and post it on here and untapped.

Whole Foods in Katy added new taps. They now have 17, including a cask engine and nitro tap. It's pretty ridiculous for a grocery store! Tonight's feature was Southern Tier creme brûlée stout, pretty tasty!

After they picked up two boxes in Detroit, I asked them what their route plans are on the way back to TX. I was asking out of curiosity, not out of me finding beer. They immediately said they did not know and they were not going to tell me even if they did.

Nice mixture of the bourbon and the Elda. Neither was overpowering.

Got mine at Central Market inside the loop. You may want to call to see if they still have some. HEB on Bunker Hill said they should get theirs Monday too.

BTW... Perry signed the bill today! A great day for Texas craft breweries.

Only bad news... JK is now going to do special releases for all their more limited stuff. I can only hope they fall on non-football weekends.

The stone espresso stout is extremely heavy on the espresso. I thought it was a great beer, but don't expect a stout with coffee notes. Expect an espresso flavor with the flavors of a stout

Southern Star Valkyri double IPA... first try with the Conroe brewery. Not too bad. The hops hit me hard at first, but mellowed out as I let the beer air a bit.

Trying to decide what I want next as the missus is out with the girls for the evening.
