So I had a beer tonight that I would say is soft, fruity, and hoppy. Arguably a modern west coast ipa if I can steal Chipotle's tasting notes. Perhaps it is similar to the Lagunitas Trooper. Likely I will never know.

Having some semi-local beers in Virginia Beach.

The Aslin isn't that good, which doesn't surprise me since they are known for NEIPAs. It was all they had at the grocery store though.

I tried to go to their tasting room, but it is valet only, and I currently have too much stuff in the Jeep to hand the keys to some stranger. I don't love valeting normally either.

I always liked Lucy Juicy from Solace more than anything from Aslin anyway.

Today I had a New South - Dirty Myrtle imperial IPA. It was ok.

This is my first time in Myrtle Beach, and I feel that saying it is trashier than VA Beach is both surprising and yet pretty accurate.

Hop Art IPA from Coast Brewing Company in Charleston. Very good, crisp IPA.

It is 90 degrees here, but in the shade at this outdoor bar, with the breeze coming off the water is pretty comfortable.

Wow. Great pic. Crazy to see that as I just got off the phone with my buddy that I run up to Treehouse with. We have two of these on the way back after his BIL went on a Treehouse run for us last week.

What do you think about the beer? Looks awesome.

Creature Comforts - Lomo. A west coast style pale ale at Brick Store Pub in Decatur. Solid beer. Followed it up with a Trop from the can.




Bonus food content - coffee rubbed venison and beef fat fried smashed potatoes. And Spanish Harlem cocktail. At Deer & Dove.

Chipotle should be happy that I had a Lagunitas IPA at lunch. It was the only IPA they had. I seem to be in a craft beer wasteland in Jackson, MS. I went to a package store, a gas station and a Kroger and could not find a single craft beer to buy.

Ended up going ten miles to a Whole Foods, which I thought for sure would have a good selection of local beers. It only had a couple. I guess I'm in the wrong town for that.

Ended up with a Lil Smack from Chandeluer Island Brewing, which is ok. Interestingly, it is a MS brewery named for an island that is part of LA.


My hotel did have Ghost in the Machine on tap, so I had several of those while I mixed it up with the locals drinking their Bud Lights. I didn't know that locals hang out regularly in lousy Holiday Inn bars, but apparently they do and they greatly outnumbered me.

Last night was probably the first time I've had a Ghost in the Machine that wasn't shipped to me by one of y'all. Today I got some juice from the source.

Took some Gulf Coast and Ghost cans to go for hotel beers.



Since I'm in Lafayette, bonus Cajun food content - chicken and andouille gumbo from Prejean's. A little more soupy than I prefer, but pretty consistent with other restaurant bowls I've had. Good flavor though.

Just doing a little road trip to see my family in San Antonio, but not rushing it. Instead of taking the most direct route and driving 10 hours a day, I picked out various interesting cities to stop in and have been driving 3-6 hours a day on a bit of a winding route.

I didn't mean to go to Memphis, Jackson and Lafayette originally, but prices for the July 4 weekend in Destin, Biloxi and New Orleans ended up insanely high, so I had to audible.

I'm hitting Houston tomorrow and should have time to go to one brewery. What is the one I should go to get some good IPA cans I couldn't get elsewhere? I know I can get Lone Pint in SA.

Equal Parts would be my recommendation if you're looking for good beer that you can get to go that doesn't see a lot of distribution.

Thanks for all the tips. I went to Great Heights, which I'd never been to. Pretty cool spot. Do people consider this area part of the Heights these days? I don't think anybody did back when I lived in the Heights around 2013.

I liked the General Pacific best, so took some of those to go.

I was going to swing by Brash next, but they don't open til 5pm, and I need to get to my hotel in the galleria before dinner.

It's a little place in Wimberley that serves local beer and wine. They just opened up an inn a few months ago.
