I don't know, I can be on a ski slope 5 hours from departing KSAT.

For sure, if you're going to Denver or Vegas you can easily get a direct flight out of SA. The recent trips we have taken (pre-COVID) we left out of Austin so we can do a direct flight. I personally hate the airport/flying experience and prefer to drive to Austin for a direct flight so I spend less time in an airport.

I always check Austin for flights anytime we are traveling. They seem to have better times and prices. Not bad having the option to fly SAT or drive an hour for more options. I don't see the big complaints about our airport situation here.

Honestly ALL complaints are ridiculous here, because trade-offs for major airports are inherent, constant, and very annoying.

Would I like to have more direct flights? Ect. Of course.

However, we have many direct flights with a clean and easy to navigate airport IN THE MIDDLE OF THE CITY.

Related, easy access to Austin.

This is an excellent situation. How did everyone enjoy their Denver bus rides, for example?

I'd much rather have a situation such as this - or San Diego - than getting off a plane and riding riding riding in your next little leg.

I just realized this was a well executed troll thread.

It would take a legendarily large baby to complain about SAT if they've ever visited another airport in the country.

Excellent work, troll. You had me going for a bit.

SFO? I'd choose Oakland first.

The main complaint has always been lack of availability of flights/direct flights not the location of the airport (unless you live under the flight path!). The reason is the lack of demand the city has for flights, not that we don't have a massive airport. Building a new airport wont solve that. For being the 7th largest city San Antonio has very few high paying jobs, corporate headquarters, etc. compared to other cities even half our size. DFW, Houston and Austin get the corporate relocations from other states and we get their call centers. Demand is higher with tourism/conventions/government which the airport is a great location for that.

The airport is a great location and I don't think the "if we build it they will come" will work for enticing large companies to relocate here which is what some politicians want. It didn't work out well for the Alamo Dome and would cost hundreds of millions of dollars.

I love our airport. Super easy and fast. I'll show up 30 minutes before the flight at times.

Not really worried about the availability of restaurants/bars as I try to spend as little as time possible at the airports when traveling and ours is definitely one of the faster/easier ones that I've ever been in.

Faster then that.

Pre-COVID you could take the 5:15 am Delta direct to SLC and be at Park City before 9:30 am. Then board all day and be back the same day on the last SLC-SAT which lands a tad after midnight.

EPIC pass and free standby travel = win.

A couple of years ago I was doing that once a week.

I personally love the SAT airport because like mentioned, it's just so easy to get to your gate. Plus isn't the B gates modern? I only fly southwest and Delta so as many times as I have flown out of SA I have never seen the B gates. That's where United and American fly out.

They do need a priority pass lounge though. But to be fair Austin doesn't have one either.

The CEO and his wife wanted to hobknob with other elite CEO's and play the look at me game in Dallas. It was a HUGE cost to his employees and the travel was not a major issued due to the fact they had several corporate jets, they did not fly commercial, it was used as the excuse. I knew a lot of the corporate people back then and the vast majority were not in favor of the move.

The biggest reason San Antonio Airport size is small, John Tower and DFW, it totally destroyed any chance of San Antonio airport expansion.

San Antonio isn't a connection airport, who the **** needs nicer restaurants and bars?

Get to the real bars.

OP I guess you haven't flown much. SAT is a really nice airport for what it is and they finally solved parking. Try flying into Kansas City or Miami. There's much worse out there.

KC is shockingly terrible, but the locals swear they love it for the convenience.

I would rank ATX over SAT because it's just as simple getting in and out, the food options are better, and the concourse is less stuffy. But all in all, SA has a solid airport and when I lived downtown it was a dream for work travel.

I think security and customs is a lot worse at ATX. At least in my experiences.

For those who travel frequently, the SA airport is great. For those who travel once a year, I guess they are expecting more.

B gates are great. Terminal B is small...only 8 gates, all to UA/AA hubs. Incredibly efficient. Luggage gets to the curb quickly.

SAT is a fantastic airport for what it is. It'll never be a hub or a big spoke and that's fine. Worry about amenities at IAH and ORD and DEN, etc. If you're at SAT for more than an hour or so you need to re-think your travel strategies.

SAT is perfect - it's dirty and the dining options are awful. I like an airport which prepares travelers for the city it's located in.

In that case it needs a flea market.

I don't care about "connections" by comparison to location, layout, and cleanliness (it is great on that score) - so

A+

Man a flea market in the airport would be awesome. Go to Gervin's for some beers and then go spend some money at the Pulga.

SAT has direct flights to most major cities in the US. If you're going somewhere that there is not a direct flight too its likely you don't make that trip often.

You want to see a crappy airport you need to choose between SLC and SAC.

My problem with SAT is the same thing it was 40 years ago.

The first impression of a city for many travelers is the airport.

When you go to claim your bags in SAT you are met with the most Mickey Mouse baggage claim area in all of the USA.

What's wrong with SLC? I've never had issues there, and Squatters is a solid place to grab a beer.
