AC This Morning

Live in SE Texas it's humid this morning, over 95% humidity. Woke up with thermostat reading 74 we set AC on 72. Air out of vents feels slightly cool, and the AC humidity reading is 73%. The AC hasn't really reached 74 and cutoff. Set it to 75 now to see if it'll keep up at that. It's currently not running.

Is this just a situation of bad external factors possibly or should the system never operate like this?

ETA: Replaced filter that was put in 11/23/24

Yours are mild conditions and the AC should easily be able to control humidity in the space to between 40-60%. Shut everything off for a minute and then restart. Is this the first time to go back into Cooling from running only Heating? It can sometimes act a little dicey resetting to a different mode.

In cooling, with the compressor running (not just the fan) you should be getting 55-60 degree air coming out of the supply vent. Your indoor coil should be producing condensate, which runs down to the drain pan, and out the condensate drain pipe. You likely don't have a visible way to easily confirm this is happening.

For the outdoor unit, when running you should feel the airflow out of the outside fan as at least 10 degrees warmer than the outside air.

If these things aren't happening, you likely have a problem and need service tech.

I don't get what you're setting your thermostat to. What is it inside and what is it set to? If it's only running for a couple of minutes before reaching the desired temperature, the humidity is not going to drop.

Just an overflow switch I had to clean out. Back to working good.
