Could be a couple of different things. 1. Not sure where you're located but it's hot here and it could just be trying to maintain the temp and you're kinda at equilibrium of AC capacity and heat load. 2. Be that your indoor fan and outdoor fan are running but the compressor is not. We see this a lot with bad capacitors, go feel the larger insulated copper line near the outdoor unit, if it's cold the compressor is running.
If I had to guess I'd say option 1 is what was happening and you just became aware of it due to your activities outside.
Never hurts to have it checked though.
