Aa good as this sounds to continually cool your house it's supposed to tuen off.

So question is why? Service tech scheduled to come out.

Sounds like it could be the thermostat? Can you reset it by cycling the breaker? That'd be the easiest thing to check.

Cycling the breaker? Turn breaker off to AC then back on…i think what you mean?

Yes. It'd probably be to the air handler. Just give it 30 seconds to let whatever electronics are in it reset.

Have you tried turning the thermostat to 'off'? I'd do that first.

IF you have an old school non-digital thermostat, the little metal spring that changes with temperature probably broke. Or a contact wore out.

I have the thermostat off and has been for about an hour while I clean up the yard. Still cook inside. I will turn it back on when I get inside for a while so i can hear it run on and back off.

You're sure it's the actual ac running and not just the fan part, right?

Hmmm… no. How can you tell? I know air is moving through the unit in the attic and it's cool.

Just turned back on. Only we t up 3-4 degrees whole outside cleaning up.

This is thermostat

Make sure the switch labeled fan is all the way over on auto. It should cycle off when the ac does.

Move the Heat/Off/Cool switch to off and leave it for a few minutes.

I know it doesn't look like it's on auto but it is.

Could be a couple of different things. 1. Not sure where you're located but it's hot here and it could just be trying to maintain the temp and you're kinda at equilibrium of AC capacity and heat load. 2. Could be a bad thermostat, I'd only suspect this if you're cooling more than 3 degrees below set point. 3. Could
Be that your indoor fan and outdoor fan are running but the compressor is not. We see this a lot with bad capacitors, go feel the larger insulated copper line near the outdoor unit, if it's cold the compressor is running.

If I had to guess I'd say option 1 is what was happening and you just became aware of it due to your activities outside.

Never hurts to have it checked though.

The copper inlet valve line was cool… I wouldn't say cold and it didn't have condensation on it even though the wrapping is old and cracked.

So I set the thermostat to 73 and it's cycled on and off trying to match that temperature. But to me 73 is not that comfortable inside the house. I usually keep it at 69 and it cycles on and off just fine. I am in The Woodlands so yes, it's hot and humid .

Pull the thermostat off the wall. Should disconnect the low voltage signal wire telling things to turn on.

If everything turns off, I'd say it's a thermostat issue.

After a check of AC unit all was fine, tech changed out the thermostat. Cleaned the coils and taped up a small area of leakage on attic unit… bit all else was good.

Yes. New thermostat. Honeywell T4 Pro....seems to be working.
