Curious as to what folks think...currently have a shower/tub - standard stuff there, 3 walls, shower curtain rod on one side. Wanting to replace curtain with a sliding door...got a quote today for pretty basic 3/8" tempered glass sliding doors. see pic and size. bottom would be resting on the ledge of the existing tub, not the floor, just to be clear.

There were options for "low iron glass" and some glass guard for protection which doubled the price...not sure if necessary on those.

What would yall think is a ballpark estimate?

Is the door top hung with weight carried on rollers or is the weight sitting on the tub. Do both panels move or is one fixed?

Material cost is about $300-$400 for the glass and $150-$500 for the hardware pending answers to the items above. Add labor and mark-up and you are likely looking at probably $1,500.

Low-Iron is ultra clear glass. Unless this is some kind of statement bathroom I don't think it's necessary. Shower guard is supposed to help protect from long term water staining. I recently installed a 3/8" clear shower with shower guard at the house.

Resting in the tub, about 12-14" clearance above to ceiling. Both panels move

Pending where you are located, you could probably find someone to do it for $1,000-$1,250

Quote was $1300

Iron free glass add $580
Glass coating add $580

Did a master bath remodel and the glass we have in there I'm guessing is NOT iron free…never seen it as a problem.
This particular glass door over the tub will be my kids bathroom

We're going to remodel our kid's tub too but instead of keeping it, it's getting torn out and will put in sliding doors. Where is best place to shop for these? See them everywhere online.

Cap, that's in line with what I would expect, but like everything with renovations/contractors it can be worth the time to get a couple of quotes to make sure.

Maroon, where are you located? Showers have really grown in popularity over the last 5 years. If you are in a big city I bet you can easily find 10+ companies that all they do is measure and install shower doors. Jump online and check reviews or ask on next door/neighborhood Facebook page for recommendations. The blue tile was from Lowe's, my wife fell in love with it, just make sure your tile guys are comfortable with cutting non-square or rectangle tiles before picking it out.

Your quote is accurate if you want to go with a custom glass, and frameless. We do this a lot on bathroom remodels and the cost is $1,200-1,800. The biggest variation in price depends on the type of glass and the hardware.

However, for what you're wanting, if you're looking to save cost you can get it off the shelf at Lowe's for much cheaper. $600-800. If you're somewhat handy you can install it yourself. If not, installation will run you $300-500 for someone who knows what they're doing.

I see a lot of the brand DreamLine for sliding shower door options (like above)- can anyone confirm these are reliable and will last?
