Curious those that have done this what it cost you, so I have an idea before getting a quote. Wanting to convert upstairs jack and jill bathtub to a shower as our kids only use our shower and I am tired of that. We have a tub downstairs in guest bedroom so not worry about resell value here. Thanks.
I am just finishing a bathroom remodel where we were originally just going to replace tub/shower with a ceiling to floor shower. Demo took less than a day. And on the 2nd day, my wife decided we were doing a full remodel minus the ceiling and top half of the walls.
To answer your question, I spent probably $2,000 on supplies to remodel the shower. I chose Kerdi based on the YouTube videos I watched to figure it all out. You can use less expensive materials to your liking. It seemed idiot proof to me to use Kerdi.
Kerdi backerboard - $400
2 Kedi curbs - $150 each (the curbs are 4' and I needed 5 '
2 Kerdi shower niches for shampoo, soap, etc $100 each
Tile $300
Mortar, grout and misc to finish - $150
Trim $100
Tools to complete - the remaining amount.
Total for the entire bathroom (it is about 7' x 9' or so) was about $5000.
We bought a new vanity, lighting, toilet, tile for the floor, paint, etc. I built shelves last weekend and have yet to install the new exhaust fan.
I'm 11 months into the project and almost done but it has been fun and frustrating. I only get a day or so a month to work on it. So, if you want it done quickly, find a contractor. If you want to save money, do it yourself and do what you like. Not what will sell later down the road. Homebuyers are fickle.
