Broke the plastic handle on the built in microwave. I've found the part online from Sears, and the thing isn't cheap. It's just under $100 before shipping. The catch is, it says that a technician should install the handle because of the shielding in the door.

By the time I burn a vacation day to meet a tech, buy the part, AND pay a technician to do what I'm sure is a 10 minute job, I could probably swap out the whole unit!

How hard is it to get the door apart? How hard is it to not put the shielding back in correctly?

The top screw is easily accessible. The bottom one is concealed inside the door

Trivial. Also seems that there are knock off handles (google the part number) for around $30.

As for me, spolied by this MW http://rb.gy/jwu7k
would see this problem as an opportunity to rid myself of the

Don't have a kenmore but did this recently with my GE. Use a spudger tool to remove the inner cover after taking the door off. Was able to just use a longer screw instead of replacing the entire handle. Ended up replacing both screws with longer ones and the handle is solid now.
