Security Camera Privacy Laws

How long do you want to ignore this user?
I've searched and looked and am getting several conflicting answers about privacy laws in Texas. Short story, I came home after the weekend and noticed a new security camera installed on my neighbor's front corner of the house, near the garage, that is pointed directly backwards, away from the street towards both theirs and my backyard. The angle of the camera points directly at the side of my house and several windows, office, kitchen, and living room, and a corner of my backyard. I know the answer is to go speak with them, but I needed a night to cool off and wanted to get my facts straight in case being nice about it doesn't work as planned. I'm all for security in the front, which they had installed as well, but this camera is completely unnecessary as the gate to their yard is on the opposite side and the only window on this side of the house is bathroom window. (I was here when the house was built and knew the previous owners for 5+ years). I also looked earlier and didn't see one in the same location on the other side, which is the gate side, but I could be wrong. If I'm on my back porch I'm now on camera, if I walk down the side of my house, I'm on camera, and If I open the blinds on the front corner and all rooms along the side the camera is pointed towards all of these locations. Anyone have any experience dealing with something like this and any recommendations on how to resolve it?

Sounds like you need a better fence. If he can see you from his house, that's not really his problem that you don't like it. There are plenty of reasons for him to want a camera on a part of his yard without a gate, but he doesn't really have to have one.

For my cameras that catch a small part of my neighbors side yard I program them to not sense motion in that area. Then it isn't recording because they are walking in the area by pool equipment. I also took care to adjust so that my view is as little of their side as possible while still giving me the coverage I need of my side gate and sidewalk that runs from the gate to the back of the house.

Assuming you are not the crazy neighbor he has to keep eyes on, I would assume your complaint would be limited to what he could view if he was enjoying his property from a lawn chair on the side of his house. It would be creepy, but he could set a lawn chair on that side of the house and enjoy his property.

I do believe people naturally annex the non-gate/ their driveway side of their neighbor's yard (people don't go over there), which I hate, but the neighbor should try to limit the camera view to the minimum for privacy

How sure are you that the camera is actually picking up motion in your backyard? With the camera's location, he may have it there specifically to see his AC unit. My neighbor has that - one camera on the side of his house that butts up to my yard because that's where his AC unit is. Doesn't really bother me, but also not sure what, if anything, he can see in my backyard.

open the blinds and flash your dong several times a day. you'll find out real quick if your neighbor is recording your house/yard.

or maybe you won't. maybe they are into that.

I've got the same problem and considered planting crape myrtles or something similar to block the neighbor's camera. But then I considered that his camera may be the one that catches the thief breaking into my house. I still haven't made a final decision, but am simply pointing out that there's two ways to look at the situation.

Or maybe they aren't high resolution cameras.

Lots of great ideas on here!

Talking to your neighbor is best. If that doesn't work and you don't want the camera coverage, then a 250W equivalent wide angle LED flood aimed in the general direction of the camera will solve your issue.

Another idea - infrared floods. Won't bother you inside but will blind the cameras.
