Looking at adding a mini split to my garage shop. Garage is 25'x25' with 10' ceilings. I have 2 windows facing east, and the garage door faces west.

I see Home Depot has a few on sale, however I'm not sure what non standard tools I would need. Also can't decide between 12K BTU and 18K BTU. Heat pump necessary.

If you buy the ones with precharged line sets and you shouldn't need any special tools at all.

What is the climate of the location ?

Are the walls insulated ? Insulation In the ceiling above ?

Garage door insulated ?

Are you wanting 110v or 220v?

I have experience with the 12k in a 500Sq fr cabin and it works good. But if you read the tech info it says 230v. Had an issue with it on the control board because each leg was ~ 124 volts which way higher than what the company rates it at when wired for 220.

For that sq ft I would lean towards the 18k without knowing more variables unless you have foam in the walls and rafters.

I installed a Mr cool pre charged in my garage. The one I got even runs on 110. Forget the exact size, but it does a good job. Install was straight forward and easy with normal diy tools. I purchased online.

In The Woodlands, Texas

All walls and ceiling are insulated with fiberglass. 2x4 framing.

Garage door is not insulated.

I can do 240 or 120, doesn't matter to me at all as I have room for both.

I have a 120v 12k mr cool for a 360 sqft 8 ft ceiling space. It is not the quickest for that space. It does a great job heating and cooling if you give it some time.

Based on those variables and location I would step up to 18kbtu especially with the west facing uninsulated garage door

Agreed - larger mini-split ideas above
other simple, disposable options "old school"
