Getting a new build going (pouring pad as we speak) and our builder sent us to pick appliances and other stuff yesterday. The wholesale warehouse we went too pretty much told us if we want our stuff in the 4 to 5 month timeframe we're looking at we have to choose between Samsung and Kitchen Aid. My wife went into it not necessarily wanting Samsung with what she's heard but between those 2 brands we like the Samsung options better.

Any thoughts on y'all's experiences with them? I'm talking everything. Fridge, dishwasher, oven, cooktop, microwave. Reviews online can be bad but my theory on that is you only see the complaints and people that are happy never leave them. I'd say asking friends online it was 75/25 positive.

I have never owned a Samsung appliance, so I can't speak from personal experience. However, I owned an LG refrigerator that started becoming pretty loud (compressor issue). Called 3 different repair companies and the first question they asked is "what brand is it?". When I told them it was an LG, all 3 said something like, "if it's LG or Samsung, we won't waste our time and attempt a repair. We've spent too much time trying to fix them and were never able to repair them so we won't even touch them any more". They wouldn't even take my money and attempt repairing it.

Anectodal, I know, but I wouldn't buy Samsung appliances because of their comments. I replaced the noisy LG refrigerator with a GE Profile and couldn't be happier.

We have a French door fridge from them going on 8yrs. Ice maker went out this year and I swapped it out for a little over $100 DIY. I believe this model preceded the freezing ice maker problems though.

We also have a washer/dryer that is about 3yrs old and so far, so good <knocks on wood>

ETA: them = Samsung. That said, I'd order what you really want and take the chance on it showing up on time or a little late.

I just bit the bullet and bought a Samsung fridge after holding out for quite a while. I've been looking for months and had been specifically excluding LG and Samsung from my searches.

I got it for three reasons 1) it's available, 2) it's a specific style that I want (and there aren't many other options), and 3) everything else got terrible reviews.

I bought my house in 2013 and it came with upgraded GE appliances. The fridge has been terrible from day 1, and I had the dishwasher replaced 2 years ago. I "upgraded" to a Bosch, but I'm not exactly impressed with it, either.

So, basically my opinion is that most manufacturers are making appliances to be disposable or upgraded in <10 years.

I do have an LG washer and dryer that are great. The dryer is almost 14 years old. I had to get it repaired last year, and the repair guy said the older models are easier/cheaper to repair.

Samsung fridge: it sucked & we had a hard time finding a repair person to do warranty work. That didn't fix it & it limped along until out of warranty. It was a fan issue that never got fixed. Maybe there are some repair people now, but we were in the DFW area - not some "middle of nowhere" place. Might want to get the extended warranty for replacement unless that's changed.

Samsung Washer/Dryer purchased 9 years ago

Washer: slide out soap tray always dripped, so after your clothes were done, there would always bee some soapy water dripping on the fresh cleaned clothes. Also, the bar that the top door hinges on rusts, and causes rusty water stains. Surprisingly no electrical problems yet. The stabilizer bars/shocks have had to be replaced once. The unit constantly smells like mold despite always leaving the door open. I have to do a pretty serious cleaning on it per some youtube videos

Dryer: have had to replace the heating element 3x ,and some thermo sensor once. Not cheap repairs. Every repairman said to not buy Samsung.

Went with pretty much all Samsung when we redid the kitchen 5-6 years ago. Also put in Samsung Washer and Dryer at the same time. The only thing left is the fridge, and the ice make hasn't worked in it for 2 years now.

Samsung stays at the forefront of design (in my opinion) and has the coolest features. Those cool new features are garbage. Go with less bells and whistles, but more reliability.

Dishwasher - bought the top end "power-wall" dishwasher. Made it a month out of warranty when it died. Replaced with a bosch and have been much happier.

Fridge - they replaced it once under warranty for some compressor part that couldn't be replaced. After a year or two the ice maker got bad and I would have to empty it and scrape it out every 3-4 days. Eventually it quit working completely. Will not consider Samsung for its replacement.

Washer and dryer - Washer got repaired under a recall because they were catching on fire. When it died (shortly out of warranty), replaced it with a Maytag. Its not as pretty, but who cares. Does the job. The dryer died a few months ago. Got another Maytag and have not been dissapointed.

Do yourself a favor - wait for a more reliable brand instead of getting the Samsung now.

I have an 11 year old LG fridge that I've determined to be more or less immortal. That's because I've been waiting for it to go out so I can put a Subzero in since 2014. Everything works like new including the icemaker and the stainless is virtually scratch and smudge-free.

This thing is determined to keep on truckin' just to spite me.

If you're talking other appliances I have a Kennmore W/D set that have been almost completely trouble free for 17 years; the dryer has needed a door switch, light bulb, and two relays which are about 15 minute fixes. Other stuff is by Miele and Blue Star and are only 7 years old.

Previous owner of my house decked it out with samsung.

Dishwasher - this is a total piece of crap. I basically wash stuff by hand, then put it in the dw for a rinse and a half ass dry. Steel skin doesn't look great either. The handle is coming loose and the only way to fix it is to take the damn front door apart.

Microwave - looks good, but really seems to lack power. It is big and the controls are fine, just takes about 25% more time than my old GE.

Range/oven - no complaints. Looks good and functions like it should.

I have a Samsung washer/dryer that is 5-6 years old. The washer will get off balance every once in a while, and when it does, there is a slight leak from the back of it.

The dryer has had a couple issues. First, the pulley for the drum belt seized up and broke. A while later, the control panel circuit board went out. Both were DIY repairs, cost about $200 for parts.

I probably wouldn't buy Samsung appliances again. They have done their job, but for "premium" appliances, I haven't been very impressed by them.

I know I'm starting to sound like a broken record.... one of my customers owns a "high end" appliance repair business that services all of dfw and he told me many years ago to avoid Samsung & LG because they are cheap Korean products that only care about how they look on the outside (glitz). He recommends whirlpool, kitchenaid, maytag.

This. When we bought our current home in 2016 we had to buy all new appliances. We ended up getting a Samsung washer, dryer, fridge and oven/range.

We have already replaced the washer (due to the spin cycle explosion issue, not being able to clean under the agitator leading to mold growth, and computer controller issues) and dryer (heat element and computer controller).

The appliance repair guy said to replace both with a non-Samsung with the least amount of computers involved.

Our fridge is still going but we are on our 3rd ice maker. I paid the $300 for the extended best buy warranty so I have made my money back, but as soon as we have another issue, we are going to move it to the garage and buy something else.

The oven/range is still going strong...

There seems to be a trend across all manufactures that the oven/range give the least problems and the dishwasher/fridge give the most. I know that was true with my set of GE appliances.

I'm sure this has everything to do with the complexity (or lack thereof) of parts involved in making each appliance function properly. And introduce water, and that's just another mechanism for failure.

Personally, I'd just pick each appliance individually, depending on my preference for specific function and aesthetic. I don't see any need for every appliance to be from the same brand, unless you just want to take advantage of a multi-purchase discount.

We're waiting on our appliances for our new build now. Every appliance is a different manufacturer, and I would not try to get a package. Each manufacturer typically does something better than the other. With that being said, we did do cabinet front fridge and dishwasher so there will not be any issue with finishes not matching. During our research, Samsung had decent ranges and not much else.

Replaced it ourselves and the 3rd bracket broke about 2 years after the 2nd one was put on. It also had balance issues that required replacement of the balance rods. Again we did that ourselves. After the 3rd bracket broke that was it for us. Replaced it with a GE model. We have faired better with the dryer. Only issue was the heating element going out. We replaced that as well. Love their TV's but will never buy anything else Samsung (other than tv).

Can't speak for any other appliances, but have a Samsung fridge. It's been great. No issues with anything. Ice maker is a workhorse.

I'm sure that it will break immediately now that I posted about it.

Don't want to start a new thread but does anyone have thoughts on KitchenAid stuff? From all my research it seems almost all the new stuff you're lucky to get 7 to 10 years out of apparently. No matter the brand

I would be curious on this, too.

We are looking at all new appliances and I personally like the KitchenAid look and thought it was reliable but would be good to know if that has changed over the past few years....

I was looking at a Kitchen Aid side by side. Then I read multiple reviews about a sensor and/or fan failing after a few months of use which causes the fridge side to defrost/stop cooling. Parts/repairs are delayed because covid.

Also lots of complaints about rust and/or what appeared to be metal parts actually being plastic painted with metallic paint.

For $100-ish more, I went with the Samsung four door flex. The Kitchen Aid wasn't going to be available until December anyway.

Good to hear but cant help but be annoyed.

Limits options. I think we are going to do a little higher end but I definitely want to make sure we compare totals by package and make sure it all makes sense (ie is high brand #1 really $XK better than upper/mid range brand #2).

We are an April/May remodel but we know we need to get our appliances ordered within a month or two in order to ensure they are all in our hands the moment we are ready....

Fiance has a Samsung washer and dryer. Dryer made it two years before the belt broke. $300 fix on a $800 dryer or some such. Now it's making noise that I believe is a failing roller. The W/D look nice, but my beat up tin can $200 GE dryer runs circles around it.

Go online and see what you can buy used. My wife found Sub Zero fridge and freezer( both 36") that are 2009 for $5k for the remodel were doing. Right time right place . Work awesome. My buddy owns an electrical contracting company and said if anything goes out he could repair them for a few hundred and they'll run for another 20 years.

Do you like using ice cube trays or buying ice by the bag from your local grocer/drug store/convenience store? If so, you'll probably like a Samsung fridge. Google "Samsung fridge ice maker" and after 10 minutes or less of reading you'll scratch Samsung off your fridge options list.

Samsung appliances are for looks only. Problems galore, especially with refrigerators.

I decided to take the chance, and I'll report back after it's delivered tomorrow (and again after a few months of use).

Don't buy korean. All our appliances are 8 yrs old. Samsung fridge door ice maker never worked, always dripped. I cut it off and haven't used it 7+ years. we use the bottom drawer ice maker 100%. Also the fridge condensation drain line freezes up so we get a huge puddle of water collecting under the bottom veggie tray and have to soak it up with towels every 6/7 weeks. I ordered and installed the replacement part to fix this issue, but it still doesn't work right.

LG washer quit last year and repair guy said to replace it. Bought a mid range whirlpool (not happy with it either ha). LG dryer still works.

Buy cheap ugly washer dryer set. Seriously this new stuff looks nicer, but doesn't not clean or dry better and when it breaks it's a throwaway.

If you're willing to spend a few bucks I'm told that Speedqueen washer/dryers will outlast the owner. I'll vouch for Blue Star rangetops and cooktops. They're thick panels of stainless and cast iron and the sparkers on each burner are the only electronic components

Well, I'm not getting a fridge today. But, that's not Samsung's fault. It's the stupid delivery service they use in the Houston area.

Just be warned, the delivery service here is VERY inflexible. But, they don't tell you that. So, if you put in a special request re the delivery time (windows are four hours), customer service will say they can accommodate it, but the local dispatch and driver will ignore it. Also, you can't pick your 4-hour delivery window, and you don't know what the window is until the day before.

When I called yesterday, I could have rescheduled the delivery for tomorrow, but customer service said my request wasn't a problem. Instead, the driver came to my house exactly when I told customer service I couldn't be here and didn't tell me he was here. So, I was recorded as a no-show and had to reschedule for Tuesday.

Stay away from Samsung. Have a Samsung refrigerator and the ice maker is flaky and the main control board needs to be replaced and they no longer make it. Samsung = sucky engineering. My particular refrigerator has the ice maker send a signal to the main control board to turn on the fill solenoid/valve. Pure stupidity. On most designs the ice maker itself controls the fill valve.

In laws Samsung fridge ice maker kept crapping out on them. Appliance repair guy said Samsung's warranty repair for this particular problem involved caulking around the ice maker to keep moisture out. He laughed!
