All the tile was sourced from Floor & Decor. I did cut it on a wet saw and those littlle halves are a pain in the a$$. If I would have known I had this type of lead time before actually getting to the shower I would have done this little trick by Sal to make cutting easier.

While he's at it, I think he should take a couple of weeks off...we don't want him to over do it and wear himself out!

I'm concerned he either painted himself into a corner and is awaiting rescue, or he caught the virus that was going through his household. Not easy to bend and stoop with congestion- you either pass out from the concrete block in your sinus cavities or you have a river of snot down the front of your shirt- yuck!

Countertops are supposed to be installed today....

Y'all really need to get this death watch thing. Anyways, work got busy yesterday so I was not able to update and also there really isnt a whole lot going on since the last upate until now. I did get the shower completely tiled but decided to stop there. Figured there was no point and getting the second coat of paint up or the floors grouted until after the countertop people were done. Well they came and went this morning so enjoy the pics.

Tonight I am going to finish getting the cabinets and drawers painted and installed, and grout the bathroom floor. The epoxy and mortar have to sit for 24 hrs so I wont be touching the shower again until tomorrow. I am headed to the lake on Saturday for Easter but will return Sunday evening at which time I will put the second coat of paint on and install the shower enclosure. By my math that should be the 29th day of this project and the contest winner will be dubi. If something unexpected comes up, or I just feel like getting some extra zzzz's then this will spill over into Monday night and that will be day 30.

You still haven't done the grout yet, so the devil is still around and anything is possible.

I wasn't sure about the countertops, etc until I saw them. Had my concerns about how it would pair with the subway tile but wow, they look great!

Have a blessed Easter and you might want to put your phone straight to voice messaging in case dubi starts calling to ask if you're done yet....

Right now the pool is between Dubi and Scriffer depending on how the weekend went. The suspense will really kick in if he waits until Tuesday to post....

And the verdict is . . . .

Not done yet. Sorry dubi.

Basically spent the weekend enjoying my time off. I did manage to get the shower grouted and caulked and the florr grouted before leaving for the weekend. Last night was a short one with me just installing all the shoe molding and getting everything caulked in preparation for final painting. The plan was to work late to try to get everything wrapped up but I did not realize HD and Lowes closed early for Easter and I still needed some supplies so I just decided to take it easy.

So for the grout on the shower, I went with Mapei Flexcolor CQ. I wanted to go the unsanded grout option but I have read a lot of horror stories with using unsanded grout on the shower floor. I went with the CQ because unlike normal sanded grout that say to use on 1/8" or larger joints, CQ is rated for joints as small as 1/16". Now while it does do the job and I know its not something I should risk but given that every grout line in the shower on the walls and floors is an 1/8" or less, I wish I had used the unsanded grout. The lines are just a lot cleaner since the grout is smoother and it would have made caulking a lot easier. I used Mapei's color match grout but since I used the CQ grout I had to use the sanded caulking and that is a pain to deal with. I did finally figure out how to combine sponge work and a damp towel to really minimize the grout and caulk lines and am as happy as I can be with it but definitely perfer the look of sanded.

One last tip before pics, but anyone out there recaulking the tub surround or have a project going in the future and are using the 100% silcone to finish, USE TAPE. Even with a caulking tool, it is damn near impossible to get a clean caulk like with the silcone. Using tape just makes everything cleaner and easier. Came upon this decision half way through the tub surround and decided to rip out the initial application of silicone and start all over with the tape for a clean uniform look. Once this is all finished, I will add some close up picks of the shower caulking and tub caulkin for reference.

Floor

Shower and Bathtub

Now with everything caulked and ready for paint, that will only take a couple hours this evening, then it will be finish the sink installation and toilet installation. I will see what time all that finishes up to decide if I want to install the shower enclosure or leave that one item to tomorrow night.

I will also add another note on the shower tile and that is really try to lay out the tile so you do not have slivers at either end. Unless it is of the utmost importance, ignore trying to center you grout lines and focus on the ends. In the areas you see in my pics that appear to be large gaps at the end, that is actually slivers that were installed and by the time the joint grout and the corner grout get installed, they all but disappear and you are left with what looks like a large gap but there is actually a tile under there.

I agree with dubi, it looks amazing! May have taken a little longer than you thought it would but aren't you glad you did it?

Oh, and I may be the lone voice but I kinda like the thought of a stained glass window, it adds a little color surprise. (If you dislike the design though, I completely understand).

Ditto's with Dubi and Oogway! Looks good!!!

Speaking of the stained glass window, where did you get it from AggieFactor?

I'm remodeling (actually completely gutted the original master bedroom, bathroom, closet and 4th bedroom) and reconfigured the total area into our new master bedroom, bathroom and closet. Needing to get a new window for the bathroom and I know my wife would love a stained glass window in lieu of a frosted window. She actually found a stained glass window piece that she hung in front of the window in one of the other bathrooms in our home.

Gary, the glass came with the house. We have a matching sidelite on the front door as well. Both of which we are trying to get rid of. The room does need some color, but the lady of the house is taking care of that with decorations. The window just doesnt go with the look of the house and we are both looking forward to getting rid of it. Don't know if its worth a trip to East Dallas but the window is yours if you want it. Just PM me.

What size is the window? and is it vinyl with double pane or single? And what color is the frame?

BTW, was near east Dallas as we live in Sherman and went to Tyler for Easter yesterday. I could have stopped by and helped delay your efforts to get to my 39.5 days...

Sorry. I wasnt talking about the aesthetics. Just the labor in putting grout in all the lines. And the worse job of cleaning it all off the tile.

And of course the inevitable conversation with my wife who will be OCD and hate the color.

ONE MORE DAY

That is all we have left. The final painting was completed last night and the vanity drawers and doors installed.

The vanity with color coordinating shoe molding

Drawer setup under sink

Jewelry drawers for the Mrs

Entry doors painted

I also painted the vent fans because it always annoys me when you can see the drywall cutout through the fan cover

Before

After

The water closet vent fan

Here is what it looks like without the cover. Used flat black spray paint.

Finished vanity area (minus faucet)

Shower area

Bathtub
